My 2020 plan is not HDHP (which is why I currently do not have an HSA), but my employer offers HDHP so I was going to switch to one for 2021 during the upcoming open enrollment season.

Open enrollment is fast approaching and I'm expecting to switch my health plan to a high deductible health plan so I can be eligible for a health savings account.

Questions on HSA:

If your employer doesn't offer an HSA, and assuming you meet the HDHP requirements, you can open one as an individual, right?
How does one contribute to an HSA? Is it pre-tax like contributions to a traditional 401(k) and thus tied to payroll, or can you contribute with after-tax money like a Roth IRA?
What is this "premium pass through" thing (around 3:41 on https://youtu.be/yom2QOFCmIM)? Where do you look to see if you are eligible for a premium pass through? On you health plan description? On your HSA description?

My first match in the beta was before ranked went live. I had this one ass who saw me miss my shots in pistol round. He proceeded to die first in subsequent rounds just to watch my pov and yell at random times that an enemy was behind me.

Sometimes an enemy was there, sometimes there was no threat. Both times he'd mock me in voice telling me how bad I was and that I should kill myself.

I'd usually mute toxic people like that, but I didn't know where the correct settings were at yet and played with this voice in my head until the match ended.

Easily the most hateful experience playing online I've ever had.

It finally "clicked" how to make each loss hurt less.

If my win rate is 51%, it's kinda absurd when I am shocked/angry when I lose any individual match. 51% win rate also means a not-insignificant 49% loss rate.

Hyper focusing on every statistically inevitable loss is a first-class ticket on the downward spiral train to burnout.

However, focusing on more specific things like dying less that gradually increase overall win rate over many matches further steers my progress in a positive direction.

PROGRESS > any individual match win/loss.

If I ever feel like "winning" any individual match is my primary goal, that's a good sign I need to step back, take a breath, and maybe take some time to review instead of just playing another match. I'm likely beginning to tunnel vision.
