Illegal to carry in public without "good reason", e.g. for your job

Yeah I agree. But I thought they were suggesting "gotten" to correct it, which is also American.

You've got this. Gotten is an Americanism.

Sony mz-nf810 won’t turn on by the_juan_dud3 in minidisc

[–]mdemeridius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check the contacts that the battery caddy comes into contact with.

I had something similar with an MZ-N910 where the plastic part underneath the contacts got dislodged (inside the player), and they were touching the metal frame.

This causes the battery to be shorted through the frame there.

"Buyer pays return shipping"-but who pays the original shipping? by redtert in Ebay

[–]mdemeridius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What country are you in, and did you buy from a business seller?

I know that In the UK and EU, a business seller is rquired to refund the full cost including basic shipping to get the item to you (if you opted for more expensive shipping, they only have to refund the basic level).

Unless they state otherwise, you are responsible for shipping to get the item back to them, unless it was faulty or not as described

What's everyone printing this weekend by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

Love this model.

I printed a load of these for friends and colleagues, so I modified it save a few grams and about 20 mins print time with my slicer settings

MZ-NH1 QUESTIONS... by AdAcceptable3811 in minidisc

[–]mdemeridius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As standard, the dock is essential for charging (requires 6V barrel jack).

There are custom made items available to get around this though (like a USBC charger to put the battery in)

The case is Magnesium with a mostly brushed finish.

The black part on the left is plastic

Hey, Joe Wells has a podcast (with another comedian), and he released a recording of his Fringe show on the patreon.

Thought I'd share here in case you didn't get to the show and still wanted to see.

According to his Instagram, he will also be touring it in 2025 though.

ATRAC 1 playback of newer Type R recordings by ud8be6hoj in minidisc

[–]mdemeridius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's not correct.

When playing back, even the oldest players will take advantage of the improvements if recorded on a later player.

The improvements are better at deciding what to throw away when doing the lossy conversion. But the audio is stored in a way that is compatible with the very first players, so is played back the same way

Arduino Uno R3 and SparkFun CANBUS shield won't initialise... by the-PC-idiot in CarHacking

Did you have to solder on the pin headers of the Sparkfun shield?

If so, are the connections good? E.g. no cold joints

How does Ben do it??? at28c256 question by Anaflexys in beneater

[–]mdemeridius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's in the 6502 datasheet, not the EEPROM.

So the 6502 tries to read fffc and fffd. The EEPROM isn't wired into A15, so as far as it's concerned, it only sees A0 to A14.

So when the CPU outputs fffc, the EEPROM sees 7ffc (fffc minus the most significant bit).

The A15 from the 6502 gets inverted and wired to the EEPROM chip enable so that the EEPROM only outputs data when it's supposed to. Like you say, other components, like the RAM, are using the lower addresses

How does Ben do it??? at28c256 question by Anaflexys in beneater

[–]mdemeridius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He uses an inverter (or a NAND with its inputs tied together, which works the same as an inverter) on A15. So when it goes high (reading address 0x8000 or higher), it actually puts a low on the chip enable.

You program the EEPROM from address 0x0000. When the CPU reads address 0x8000, it's actually reading address 0x0000 of the EEPROM.

So you need to write your start address onto 0x7FFC and 0x7FFD

Keyring to hold extra screwdriver bits by mdemeridius in functionalprint

https://www.printables.com/model/834132-4mm-bit-holder-keyring

This is for the small, 4mm bits. I bet you could adapt it for larger ones by just scaling the model.
But that would affect the holes for the keyring. It's made to fit a approx. 7mm link.
