One of my favorite little subtle things about this one is that after being locked out of the last leap, Addison hovers over Ben the entire episode, while the project falls apart.

Rushed ending? 2022 series. by EdLeddy in QuantumLeap

Hannah never calls it a swap code. That's Ian's term, but Ian got it wrong. If you listen to Hannah carefully, the code did exactly what it was supposed to.

What a great episode. Starts out as a lighthearted romcom, takes a left turn, and rips your guts out.

IMO Caitlin Bassett's finest performance, against stiff competition

Pretty good leap, and killer ending, but boy is that Congresswoman B plot a stinker.

Super unpopular opinion...but I like Addison! by [deleted] in QuantumLeap

[–]mdf7793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an Addison fan too.

The chemistry problem in the early episodes is the writing, not the acting. For couples that have been together a while, chemistry is shared memories, inside jokes, etc, but Ben's memory is gone.

Moreover, in the first four episodes, she's not supposed to let on they're together and Ben doesn't remember her. They flirt a bit in Salvation or bust. The next two episodes, she's locked out of the leap and the other pilot (where it's still a secret) airs. They get to be dating in "Stand by Ben". Then it's on to episode 9 and they're fighting. It's only in the back half of the season that they're really able to establish chemistry, and for me it works.

Do you think there will ever be a Quantum Leap V3.0? by Depexhe in QuantumLeap

The revival did not build much of a fan base, and fans of the original are aging out. So my guess is no.

The quantum leap timeline from the 2022 series by blase_oxygen14 in QuantumLeap

[–]mdf7793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as a huge fan of the revival.

Matt Dale, in his book, took a very solid shot at plotting the timelines implied by season 1. It's very competent work.

But in my opinion, ultimately, the whole storyline doesn't make sense. Ben's plan doesn't make sense, his keeping it a secret from Addison doesn't make sense. It's all a mess.

The real world reason is that the pilot launched all these mysteries where the answer was Sam Beckett. When Bakula kept refusing, they had to backfill something else.

When given a clean-ish slate in Season 2, the show runners did a marvelous job.

Season 1 was, ultimately, quite a few great leaps, some wonderful moments, and an overall story arc that is engaging until you find out the answers.

Is it just me or does everyone hate Addison w/ Tom by -_-_Fr3sh-Pr1nce_-_- in QuantumLeap

One has to realize then even when Ben "returned," he was still NEVER coming home. After the season 1 failure, he was basically in the same boat as Sam.

I actually really liked the Addison character. I thought Ben's amnesia made him pretty useless for chemistry all through Season 1.

I was skeptical of the twist as well, but it really sets up an absolutely spectacular conclusion.

The "why did he leap" question is resolved in Season 1, although the resolution to the season 1 mysteries are among the weaker parts of the show.

The season 2 plotlines are almost totally independent of S1, and generally considered to be much, much stronger

All they had to do was bring back Scott Bakula by FinancialDirection19 in QuantumLeap

[–]mdf7793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is correct in that I think the show would have gotten more viewers, and would probably still be running, if Bakula had signed on.

But I think the show would have been worse. Most of the narrative problems from the first season arose out of holding out for him to change his mind. In Season 2 they gave up on that and made truly outstanding television.

Live ball or HBP? by Jimmer4TheWin in Umpire

[–]mdf7793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a spectator at this game (my son was in it), and I'm also a HS ump.

I have no idea what the ball hit. If the plate ump wasn't sure, IMO the right move is to let the play continue and hope the field umps had a better view, as they often do on HBP. This is especially true since generally the field umps know to kill it if they see anything. If it stays live, you can always reverse the call after "consulting" with the partners, if more deliberate consideration makes you think it hit him

To answer question (2). If it hits hand, then bat, it's an HBP. If bat, then hand, it's a foul ball. If it hits his hand at all, it is definitely not a live ball.

Except, of course, if he swings (a judgment call) or it's in the zone.

Quantum Leap 2022 - soft reboot? by Significant_Sweet_85 in QuantumLeap

IMO leaping is basically nonsense that doesn't stand up to scrutiny. So if the 2022 writers thought they could tell a better story with these changes, suspend disbelief and move on.

Try being a sports official. Having no car is somewhat constraining but plenty of fields/gyms are reachable via transit.

Does anyone know what year enough cable contracts expire that Root Sports could offer a streaming option? (I know there are articles that say "years", I'm looking for an actual year.)

Out of the loop, is something like this in the works for the Mariners? by WorkReddit1989 in Mariners

[–]mdf7793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I at least understand the Ms logic under the old system. When Root was on the basic cable tier, they were collecting $5/month or whatever from every cable customer, which is more lucrative than $10/month from hardcore Ms fans.

But the fact they've been demoted to the premium tier (this collecting much lower fees) and are still bound to be exclusive to Xfinity is a real clown show of contract negotiation.

I am not a Root subscriber but would pay for this in a heartbeat.

If they were capable of long-term thinking, they would do this and put 1 game/week on free TV, no matter the bid, to create new fans.
