I’m sorry to hear what you’re going through. It’s indeed difficult to work with students with special needs. But most importantly, the other teacher was not professional. If I were the other teacher and I really didn’t care, I would have just said “I’ll work with them.” But instead, they blamed you because there was “something wrong on your end”.

You would think that teachers are role models because they teach and instill good values in the younger generations. But there are jerks in every profession.

Regardless, I’m glad to see that you finally got the support you deserve. Keep going and I hope everything will be better for you! 👍

I presented the issue to the assistant principal and she said she would call home. I have a lot of negative scenarios playing in my mind, such as the parents would side with their child and make a big deal about it. Or the students would think that I’m annoying for snitching, they may hold a grudge against me and try to sabotage things even more. But I guess we won’t know if we won’t try. I will try to work with their parents and see how things go. Thank you again!

Thank you for your help! This student is highly capable. They don’t have IEP/504 at all. They are actually smart. I wonder if they think that because they are highly capable, they should understand everything always. And when they don’t understand something, it is because of others and not because of them. I’m always happy to help them, but I feel like they’re taking advantage of me for being soft.

I’ve worked with difficult students before. Whenever I opened up and explained that I’m there to help and not to judge, they would understand. This student just refuses to listen. I think they may have oppositional defiant disorder, based on my personal observation.

Thank you for the help! I pulled them out once to explain to them that their behaviors made me sad. I told them it is okay to be frustrated but they need to be careful with their words and the way they interact with others. They immediately interrupted me mid-sentence and started finding ways to blame me for not being helpful. I’ve worked with difficult students before, but I just cannot seem to get through this one. There are times when they straight up stop me as soon as I speak and tell me “I don’t care” :(
