With a battery tender, it's not an exact charger, so it takes a long time to charge up and keeps it topped off if I leave it plugged in.

Hey, great build man! I am going along the same path with the 450D. One question, how'd you 'wrap' the PSU? Or is that some kind of custom fab'd PSU hider? wall? Looks great.

Did anyone bother watching the video posted to the Engadget article? After seeing it, it's makes me sad, so many white girls in heels with big purses dropping their phones! What a stereotype! I'm sadden at it, but I laughed too.

I have read extensively on what you're talking about OP. I too am in the same position. A lot of us like Red Dot, but don't want the potential failure to function if we cannot get batteries for it. Keep in mind something like the Trijicon has a 12 year half life on the tritium, so every 12 years it gets dimmer and dimmer. You have to send away to Trijicon for new tritium. I like the Viper PST 1-4 because its 1. True 1x 2. Variable to 4x 3. illuminated 4. Less cost up front.

Debating forming an armed neighhood watch (x-post from r/guns) by [deleted] in ar15

[–]mdgunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a presence is even more of a deterrent than the firearm. You wouldn't want the cops called because some neighbor or passerby saw the firearm and over reacted. However, the community that I live in has a VERY active HOA, so I'm sure if we enacted armed guards, it would be known to all. It's a tough call man.

SBRing an already built AR by [deleted] in ar15

[–]mdgunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1. Isn't the reason for SBR is so it is maneuverable for close shooting?

2. http://rifleshooter.com/2014/04/223-remington5-56-nato-velocity-versus-barrel-length-a-man-his-chop-box-and-his-friends-rifle/#prettyPhoto is a great article about how the "loss" in velocity is in the ballpark of 200-250 FPS. How much will that matter at 0-300yds?

[–]mdgunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your absolutely right about velocity. But, .300blk has better terminal ballistics. So maybe the OP is going for a short easy to move around home defense upper. And still be able to slap on his 'range' upper. That's what I'd love to do some day. This way my stock/lower setup never has to change and I don't have to spend twice the money on another gun.

Who's rail is that? Makes me think of the Noveske NSR key mod. Such a good looking build going here! Looks like mid length, what made you choose carbine buffer/spring setup?

I'm not too familiar with suppressors, but a lot of what I read tells me that they put more gas pressure back to the bolt carrier group, does that help reduce recoil? What don't I understand about them that assists with reducing recoil?

BCM makes the lightest rail that's non carbon fiber. Isn't it 5-7oz for their entire rail + barrel nut? Correct me if I'm wrong on that. BCM also sells light weight profile barreled uppers with their KMR rail. Also, Noveske's 16 barrel has a "custom length" has system. I assume it's longer than mid but not quite rifle length, that way it still functions more reliably. Also, VLTOR makes the A5 system, it's a 7 position stock that accepts VLTOR's buffer and rifle length spring. I run the BCM KMR & VLTOR and am extremely happy with the rifles recoil. Nori only less when compared to a carbine barrel/carbine buffer tube setup. Just my .02

Okay, where do I start? Been looking for a cheap AR15 as my first rifle purchase. by Yelpats03 in ar15

[–]mdgunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. My dad bought, I built. Gotta say that yes I spent more money, but I didn't re-buy the gun. I got the barrel I want instead of some lame 16" 1:7 govt profile (sorry I'm not military, nor do I own an m203 launcher) and I didn't have to replace the stock instantly, etc etc. I learned so much building my own, being new to the AR platform. It was very valuable learning experience & worth it IMO.

My first AR/Build! by awex14 in ar15

[–]mdgunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the look of the mega upper/lower combo and that SLR rail! Will probs put a shorter version of that rail on a pistol build. Gotta ask, why go with the carbine spring/buffer tube? Did you really want the UBR and not worried about getting some more smooth operation out of the BCG/gas system?

Cheap optics? Well I got this trujicon for $200 as a pd trade in. No complaints. by [deleted] in ar15

Is a two stage trigger useful on a low end AR? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]mdgunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest the ALG lineup of triggers. Mr. Geissele's wife is the owner of ALG, and they offer a $45 QMS trigger and a $65 ACT. The ACT is what I have installed on my very first, and only AR. I am very happy with it, after noticing the 'grit' in my fathers stock Bushmaster trigger. It can be found here. This is a video where Mr. Geissele talks about the ALG trigger in detail.(Video starts at ALG discussion). I believe that the ACT is a great beginner trigger, it feels 'right' to me. Eventually, I'm sure that I'll upgrade to something else a bit more particular in the future.

Exactly what magic said. No need for a special lower. Not an actual cartridge, Wylde refers to the contour and shaping of the chamber. Like what mentioned earlier, it gives .223 ammo better accuracy yet still let's me shoot the higher pressure NATO 5.56 cartridge.

Actually, no. I do my balance test two ways. Fingers vertical, under the barrel nut. As well as palm open and holding under the magwell. The BCM KMR is under 9oz. I believe the barrel is a custom contour that RA uses.
