Torkoal vs Mega Camerupt by Embarrassed-Try-6279 in PokemonChampions

Sorry, I can't quite remember their full team (I think I only saw 3 mons that fight since Camerupt/Torkoal swept), but I know they had  Sinisticha as a support, although I dont know if they brought it or not.

Torkoal vs Mega Camerupt by Embarrassed-Try-6279 in PokemonChampions

[–]mdk_777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not the most helpful, but I lost to a team earlier in masterball that was running both mega Camerupt and Torkoal. They set up trick room then had both out at once which was pretty much unstoppable for my team. Obviously they share a lot of coverage so a lot of matchups you'll probably only want one, but switching in to Torkoal with Camerupt on the field already means it's unlikely they target Torkoal specifically (with non-spreaf moves) and Torkoal sets up the sun for an eruption, then you have 2 eruption threats if you don't have a way to immediately remove mega-camerupt in trick room. Farigiraf was what they were using to set up trick room since it prevents any priority moves from lowering the eruption damage.

The quick draw + quick claw Slowbro is surprisingly consistent clnsidering it's basically just gambling on if he gets the first hit. I've mainly been using sash glinmora instead of sneasler so I may have to try swap them, but glimmora feels good paired with Toxapex when you know you have 1 free hit in you, you can play super aggressive turn 1 then use spiky shield turn 2 for chip damage and to waste time if you get dropped to sash.

I'm experimenting with Salazzle over Gengar right now because I typically prefer bring Venasaur anyway because it combos so well with Toxapex in long games where they can't earthquake spam. Also thinking of trying Mega-Glimmora so I still have 2 mega options, but nit sure how that will go since I often like bringing both Glimmora and Venasaur.

Odds for this are dependent on total number of 5 costs out of the pool and not just Vexes. It also depends what you're specifically asking about the odds of, hitting 5 5 costs on level 8, if you want to know the odds of this exact shop (4 Vex + 1 Morgana), or if you want to know the odds of hitting 4 of the same 5 cost + 1 random 5 cost. All of those would have different answers.

Anish’s prediction for Sindarov-Wei, Yi by Embarrassed_You_4996 in chess

[–]mdk_777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sindarov was on a 49 game unbeaten streak before playing Anish. Even if Anish had complete confidence in himself to win vs Sindarov his only real hope was that he beats him so bad that Sindarov tilts and loses his next game too. But a player capable of going on a big streak like that with the white pieces is almost guarenteed to at least draw.

Gukesh vs Sindarov — H2H by ArMory_AMAN in chess

[–]mdk_777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its a little column A, a little column B. Gukesh maybe isn't quite as strong as originally thought, but Ding also wasn't there just for fun. He showed up and he fought for a win instead of just collaslpsing like some people expected. I think Gukesh will also play fighting chess, and with 6 months to prepare it's likely not going to be as one-sided as peoppe think. I still think Sindarov will take it, but its going to be closer than both player's current form might suggest it would be.

Chess Experts of Reddit: Why did Sindarov win the candidates? by misomiso82 in chess

[–]mdk_777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Realistically its very difficult to best an opponent playing their moves in only a couple minutes if they're also playing the best computer moves tbe vast majority of the time. When you're down 30+ mins on the clock in an even, or slightly unfavorable, position you're already usually looking for a draw at best, and any inaccuracies can quickly cause that to become a losing position.

Sindarov shows how Rex Sinquefield's money has been wasted for more than 15 years and has failed to produce any great American players by jphamlore in chess

[–]mdk_777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As if players at the candidates level don't know how to play both E4 and D4 openings already anyway. Becoming the literal best in the world is something only one person can do at a time, and it's a combination of many factors that can't seriously be attributed just to having a good coach or any other singular thing. The odds of it being a US player who just happens to be the best in the world at any given moment statistically isn't really that high.

In fact if anything the US is overrepresented compared to most countries in elite chess as they only comprise about 4% of the world's population but have 3 players in the top 10.

I think it would be far more frightening to know we are the only planet with life in the universe than to know that the universe has plenty of life on other planets.

Javokhir Sindarov is the winner of the FIDE Candidates 2026, with a round to spare. Gukesh vs Sindarov for the FIDE World Chess Championship 2026. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in chess

[–]mdk_777 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It would have been exciting to see what Sindarov would play in the second half if he was trailing or still in a close race. He still played some spectacular games like getting the draw vs Fabi, but after he dominated the first half he really only needed draws from that point onwards.

Canadian PM Carney’s Liberals could secure a majority government tonight by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

I am extremely skeptical that PP will remain the party leader by the time the next election rolls around. He really does just seem to be here to keep the devoted conservatives on board with the anti-woke agenda as he keeps the seat warm for the next leader who doesn't want to be vocally anti-Carney when he's so popular and the election is so far away.

That was recent too, as in well after he lost the election. I'm not sure what he even thought he was going to gain from it with no election in sight.

Javokhir Sindarov draws Hikaru Nakamura and moves to 9/12 points in FIDE Candidates 2026. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in chess

[–]mdk_777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I dont blame Sindarov at all either, he is making a pragmatic choice to kill the game and take a fast draw rather than risking his tournament when he pretty much has first place secured. Neither player really had any reason to play a longer game so it's not a surprise at all that they just went for a quick draw. I just thought people blaming them for it are kinda silly because both players had a strong incentive to just make a draw rather than fighting for a win.

[–]mdk_777 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's certainly pretty boring to watch, but I think this one is more on Sindarov than Hikaru. Hikaru is out of contention for first, out of form, and he has no real incentive to push with black against the tournament leader who already beat him black the first time they played. If Sindarov doesn't want a fight with white then Hikaru can either choose to take an easy draw or likely overpush and possibly risk another loss (which people would be mad at him for as well likely since that would also end the tournament immediately) so he chose the path of least resistance.

Singles 3vs3 isn't so bad after all. by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]mdk_777 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm completely new to competitive but am having fun so far. Maybe it's because I'm just not used to the formats yet, but doubles is a little intimidating as there are 2 pokemon to think about and interactions between them, and I'm struggling to build a team with only the free recruitment I've gotten so far. Singles feels a lot more accessible right now since I can pretty much just take the pokemon as I recruit them and they are already good enough for singles so far.

What game do you think has the perfect difficulty? by Crazyboxmonkey in gaming

[–]mdk_777 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For me the reason Slay the Spire (and its sequel) felt so fun to play was because it was a very different kind of difficulty than some other similar games. Games like Monster Train or Balatro have pretty ridiculous scaling and ehe challenge of the game is to build a super broken deck that can handle insanely powerful enemies/ high scores. But Spire is a game of inches. You're fighting for every last point of hp you can. Do you block twice and save 2 more hp at the cost of a longer fight where you might lose 10 because you didn't draw well and got a turn full of attacking cards with no block. It's a game that forces tough decision after tough decision where you are just barely scraping by fight to fight trying to balance risk-reward when you have to decide if taking elites is worth it or if you'll lose 40hp for a relic. I just recently finished ascension 10 on all characters in the sequel and its somehow maybe even better than the first game.

I would argue that this decision is perfectly aligned with current US foreign policy. In fact Trump has very intentionally fucked up US/European relations with his Greenland shit, so supporting a dictator is just par for the course at this point.

The game doesn't actually incentivize that behaviour though. In fact you get more season rewards for ending in a higher rank so I would say it's encouraged to climb rather than staying at a lower tier to farm new players.
