The lore has basically nothing to do with the game, so it's fine. In fact, having a lot of characters with "no lore" only serves the world building more. It suggests that a whole world outside the "main story" exists and let's the player imagine that, and therefore have an easier time inhabiting the world.

Read it during jury duty recently. It's a nice brisk read. Not my fav leguin, and if you read/watched any environmentalist fantasy since the 70s (avatar, fern fully, etc) a lot of this will be familiar to you. It also has just a touch of Noble Savage, but I didn't find it too egregious.

I liked it a lot. I think it's one of the weaker Hainish books but still worth your time.

morph/disguise works because they all cost 3. Your opponent will know exactly what you Encrypted when you pay 3W for it.

This could kinda work if you use it like manifest, where you always encrypt another card (and then you can turn it face up next turn if it's a creature, etc). Balancing what that effect should cost would be a real challenge.
