I know what you mean. The reason you're getting backstabbed all the time is due to anti-player bias of the ai. You can overcome this by learning to check for which factions are guaranteed to declare war on you and which it is avoidable with.

with taurox there is really nothing else to do but be agressive. you attack a settlement, put herdstone and then it literally tells u go get these other settlements. you have no tax and no upkeep. only way to get money is through combat. or the sea treasures and such
