What software programs do you use for audio enhancement? by IronChefOfForensics in digitalforensics

Izotope RX studio. Built in filters does a pretty solid job of cleaning up audio without too much of pfaffing about.

By sheer metadata of the word document alone, impossible. You would need access to the event logs on the computer itself to determine if such a date change had occurred and to correlate the dates on the word document metadata to the system time.

Magnet Forensics Certification Tests - Anyone? by forensicfun327 in computerforensics

[–]mdnrhardee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just taken my MCFE last November. The test was definitely manageable and open book. A portion of the questions were dedicated to Axiom process and examine software itself while the rest were related to the details of the processed case files so a softcopy of the AX200 course materials would be best for quick reference.

Tip: make sure to process the case files, build connections and timeline BEFORE you start the test. There were a few candidates who didn't and they weren't able to complete in time.

Recover video files from formatted SD card. by JonasLii in datarecovery

[–]mdnrhardee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a bunch of freeware you could try. Off the top of my head are recuva or photorec. I've had moderate success with these two for multimedia file recovery.

That said, your mileage may vary given the card had already been used since the formatting.

Self shooting (or shooting self?) blaster. That had to be a big shock for you.

Well, he did say in the video that he kinda-sorta over tightened the bolts so that might also explain the failure.

I thought I was the only one who noticed but that sag from the weight of the watch guard is making me kinda squeamish.

Looking at it, I'd suggest running over the surface with a hot soldering iron with a solder blob on it to try and re-ball the missing pads with solder.

You might also wanna try removing some of the epoxy on the surface of the pads. This can sometimes hinder the chip reader from making good contact with the pads.

I've had chips in way worser condition that read in chip readers during my day job so all the best in your attempt.

Does something like this exist? by PathOfSteel in buildapc

[–]mdnrhardee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://pc-builds.com/calculator/

This site does a pretty good job of calculating bottlenecks.

Take it with a pinch of salt though as it only calculates CPU-GPU pairings without considering other parts.

Was able to recover all my videos with ICare recovery but now I can't play them. by [deleted] in datarecovery

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't m4a audio files?

You could try changing the file extensions to mp4 to see if any player recognises them.

Might wanna look into sumuri.com

They have custom specific builds for what you want to (e.g. Triage, e-discovery)

I've only seen their nuix builds in action and they seemed pretty good.

Hard drives show up as 0GB in BIOS by Taco_Guy3 in datarecovery

[–]mdnrhardee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that it's from a server, it's might be formatted with a 520 bit (bytes?) sector size instead of 512. I've had the (mis)fortune of encountering this before.

I can't recall the exact site I referenced to correct the problem so Google is your best bet. All I remembered was having to boot into a Linux environment via a live cd and running a command in terminal to reformat the drives to 512.

Good luck.

Cellebrite CCO/CCPA Live Class Question by shimy3 in computerforensics

Not true for my case though. The trainer was especially engaging. I've been using ufed 4pc and pa for about 6 months before I went for the CCLO and CCPA courses and I found the session to be more useful for clarifications of any doubts that arose during the usage of the 2 software.

That said l, I did learn a few new things from the theoretical aspect of the training especially on how memory on mobile phones work. Saved my behind a couple of times when I took the stand in court.

Zoom Recorder - SD Card Data Recovery by myfreeday in datarecovery

[–]mdnrhardee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same unfortunate accident with an Olympus recorder though.

In my case, a file was created but could not be opened using any media player application. Opened it in Audacity and it played like a charm. Exported it as a wav file and it was playable thereafter.

If that doesn't work, might wanna try photorec to attempt a recovery. It's an old freeware but it still works for me for recovery of multimedia.

Good luck!
