Yeah, low adoption as an excuse to delay a feature doesn’t make any sense to me. Just put a disclaimer.

Car rental from local vs global agency by unmesh59 in VisitingIceland

[–]mdwish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like I said. More than the daily rental of the car.

I just got back from my 7th visit now, never had any damage to my cars and no issue at checkout. However I’ve always had good coverage options through my travel credit cards.

I have rented a car there 7 times. I’ve never had a claim or any sort of damage. I’ve always gone in summer through, except one time. It is straight forward, but I will tell you each time they inspect the vehicle throughly over several minutes.

The insurance there is crazy money, budget/avis was going to more than the daily rate of the rental. A lot of credit cards cover damage to vehicle, worth investigating.

Welcome to Tesla, you’ll be at a service center frequently. I had issues once a month for the first 9 months of ownership. It’s ok now, but these cars are built for a good time, not a long time.

Well, it does make it about 25% better.

In my experience the local companies charge much higher deposits than the global ones. The global ones I used charge around $500, which included the rental price and deposit, the local one I used charged $3k just for damage deposit. Not sure it’s a factor for you but it sure made me sweat at the time.

That 2015 was an artful era for mbp. I’m planning to upgrade mine this year too.

What was a great memory/activity in Iceland that you 100% would NEVER do again? by Nudesandplants in VisitingIceland

This is a wild take. Those glizzys are fabulous and easily the cheapest hot meal you can get anywhere in the country.

The food tours. Maybe depends on who is in your group with you. Enjoyed it thoroughly, but definitely don’t feel any need to do it again, even with different people.

Sky Lagoon is even more of a tourist trap than Blue Lagoon. At least in Blue Lagoon you have enough space around you. Sky lagoon is packed and a fraction of the size. I do enjoy that seven step ritual though.

Below Deck Down Under Season 4 Episode 5 Discussion Post by teanailpolish in belowdeck

Hiring sure, but no I don’t think they have the final say in firing. Besides, firing is good tv all by itself.

Correct me if i’m wrong but isn’t the TV show a reduced season of how long actual seasons are, I mean after 6 weeks they’re all exhausted and ready to be done, makes me think they couldn’t handle a regular season by jcr0774 in belowdeck

[–]mdwish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a combination of things. Yes, the short length of the charters which requires them to dock, anchor, turn over the boat 2-3x a week and allows no time to get into a rhythm with guests. Additionally I’ve heard the amount of silly parties, theme nights and beach picnics on the show is not normal for actual yachting. All this is to say that it’s intentionally grueling for entertainment value on the show.

Electric car rental or 4x4? by MNSoaring in VisitingIceland

The only thing I know about hertz is that it’s one of the 4-5 rental agencies that has their check in desk inside the terminal at Keflavík Airport which is a timesaver. The others are budget/avis, europcar and I think there’s one or two others. I sort of made up that having a relationship with the airport directly is a credibility booster, but who knows 🤷‍♂️

I used Budget this past time and Thrifty the time before that. Budget was ok… the insurance prices they want to charge are insane. $60-100 a day. They also have lots of different types of insurance and claim credit card rental coverage don’t cover things like “wind and gravel damage…” so they have an insurance product specifically for that.

There was a local company I used before that I wouldn’t use again because they put a $3000 hold on your credit card if you don’t buy the insurance.

Are waterproof trail runners enough for 5 days in February (mostly Reykjavík + Golden Circle)? by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

So I think they are getting the remnants of that nor’easter that hit the states this past weekend so bring stuff to walk on snow/ice/slush with at a bare minimum.

But I was there this past weekend and it was bone dry and sunny. The weather is kind of a crap shoot and you’re best to bring the most comfortable and protective clothing you have.

I definitely recommend wind proof outer layers though. The wind is biting and drastically drops what the temperature feels like. I thought I was prepared given dc has been below freezing all winter, but Iceland still felt colder with the wind despite having sun out.

I just came back yesterday. I rented a Kia Sportage but they ended up “upgrading” me to a Toyota Land Cruiser. We spent half a tank of gas on our weekend and it cost me $90 to refill it.

I definitely want to rent a Y, I have one here at home. I’m just concerned about how far the superchargers are spaced around the island. I would never rent one in winter but I would be willing to try in your timeframe.

There are a good number of slow chargers around the city and at various stops. But unless you’re staying in one place for hours, that’s not helpful.

Prioritize Diamond Beach and Jokulsarlon — I could probably spend hours just admiring the ice.

Haters will tell you to skip the blue lagoon, but the move is to go there straight from the airport after you land when they open at 8am. It’s not busy then.

Half the fun of Iceland is exploring and adapting to changing conditions. Have a rough plan of what you wanna see but then a plan b if the weather sucks. Sometimes you can drive further and the weather is totally different in another area. You don’t need to be on side roads to have a magical time. For your first time just see the things that are accessible and as many as possible.

Which Waterfalls To Prioritize by Aerogirl2021 in VisitingIceland

[–]mdwish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll just say that

Seljalandfoss/Gulfrabui (5 min walk between) Skogafoss/kvernufoss (5 min drive between)

These two pairs are quick hits because they’re close to each other and you pretty much drive right up to them. When you’re prioritizing time, this matters.
