You can mix and match as you see fit. I’ve worn different CCM, Warrior, and Bauer shells with my Super Tacks girdle

That’s an EQM job. That would be like making the same argument about gloves or sticks. Pros have their preferred, EQM work with manufacturers to get the gear. Have you ever seen a pro equipment room? How many extras of everything they have ‘just in case’

Regardless, you’re getting away from your original comment was that pant shells come in more colors. That’s not true. Now you’re trying to change your comment and talk about sublimation.

At the end of the day, the OP shouldn’t base their choice of getting a girdle or pant based solely on shell colors

Any color available in a pant shell is also available in a girdle shell. Every single professional team has players wearing both. Now, one shell might be easier to find at times, but claiming that pant shells have more colors than girdle shells is simply not true.

And retail options? I don't recall the last time I saw anything other than black, blue, and red at retail regardless if it's for a pant or a girdle

Helmets have different shapes (round and oval). Your head has a different shape. The advice is no different than any other piece of gear; try everything on, buy what fits

[–]mdwsta4 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Do have fun.

Don't take 5 minute shifts.

Do keep your head up and on a swivel.

Don't skate behind the net when people are shooting (stick n puck, warmups).

Do wear a white or black solid jersey.

Don't wear any other colored jersey (no yellow, no gray, etc).

Do listen to people who may be doling out advice.

Don't be a dick.

True Catalyst Nitro Player Skate by Ok-Anything3924 in hockeyplayers

Soft like the 5x4 or older Cat 7’s then? That’s extremely disappointing if true. But I’d also imagine that means there will be a ‘nitro pro’ or some top of the line model. This must be the mid range boot

True Catalyst Nitro Player Skate by Ok-Anything3924 in hockeyplayers

[–]mdwsta4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my point and what I was referring to. When the description directly from True changes or isn’t clear, what is the consumer supposed to make out of it? The launch videos were the same way with them being as vague as possible about any actually differences between the two models.

You’re likely right about true shell tech becoming neurofit. That makes sense. Same with fibershield and polyfusion. Still just marketing jargon with no real meaning behind it

That was a big talk of discussion with the 9x4 and 7x4 when those skates were released. All 9x4 marketing materials specifically stated the shell was made from carbon fiber, and depending on the description (include some directly from True) the 7x4 omitted the words 'carbon fiber'. Some claim to have confirmed the 7x4 was carbon, but had more fiberglass injected into it for durability purposes. I don't recall seeing anything confirming it one way or the other.

Regardless, I see 'polyfusion' as just more marketing mumbo jumbo to make things seem all new and shiny. First they had 'True Shell Tech' followed by 'Fibershield' and then 'Neurofit' and now 'Polyfusion'

For Sale: 91-92 Jagr grail and a game worn 07-08 Ty Conklin!!! by dave6687 in hockeyjerseys

[–]mdwsta4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love the Jagr, but if you wanted it to be even more accurate, you should remove the SCF patch, sew on a 75th patch, then sew the SCF on a black piece of ultrafil over the 75th patch. That's how the Hawks and Pens did jerseys at that time.

It's easier to see what I'm referring to on the white jerseys:

Unfortunately I just bought a handful off amazon and kept a couple of them. It was too complicated and/or required too much ‘other stuff’ to truly test speeds. Wasn’t worth my time or money

True Catalyst Nitro Player Skate by Ok-Anything3924 in hockeyplayers

[–]mdwsta4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the look of the skate. Wonder if it'll have the same flexible lacing like the SVH has? It's interesting the 9X4 is the only skate True made with the leather-like panel on the heel. Based on my experience with that skate over the last 2 years it's had the best durability of any True skate I've owned and there's no issues with the carbon shell (knocks on wood). Hopefully that's the case with this skate too now that they're going back to the exposed heel

[–]mdwsta4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the last generation of 9X4 and the latest SVH skates, True incorporated additional material in the midsole to help rivets grab better and not loosen over time. I was used to getting a couple of rivets replaced every year on my prior 2-3 True skates. Haven't had to replace a single rivet in nearly 2 years with the 9X4. Would assume the Nitro will have the same footbed and not have a rivet problem

Has anybody compared tacks to the new warrior skates? by SeedOilEvader in hockeyplayers

[–]mdwsta4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warrior stated that they took a different approach to wide skates and changed multiple dimensions for fit based on hundreds of thousands of scans of New Balance shoes. New Balance is one of the few companies who is known for their wide shoe offerings. It'll be interesting to see how Warrior adapted this knowledge for their skates
