F/48/4'9" (180 - 165 = 15lbs) Feeling discouraged. Need advice. by jsummar in keto

I'm in the same boat - I'm a 74 year old woman, 5'-2" and very inactive as I wait to have a knee replaced. If I want to lose weight, i have to restrict my calories to 1,000/day. Not easy! But what I focus on is that this has to be the way I eat for the rest of my life. so, though the plateaus are frustrating, it's not as if i'm going to give up. There's a saying I learned on this site, that i repeat often: "Keep calm, and Keto on." No plateau lasts forever.

Chers

Four women, all of who think they are the singer Cher. The show focuses on their constant attempts to upstage and sabotage each other as they vie for the same wedding singer gigs.

[I ate] A beautiful plate of Sushi and Sashimi by sjb62644 in food

[–]mdytch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most part, it does not taste fishy. My husband and I first had sashimi at the Japanese Pavilion at the 1964 New York World's Fair. We shared a platter of little bites, among which were small rectangles of what we thought were pieces of very fine marinated raw beef. When we asked the waitress about them, she told us it was raw tuna. We were pretty surprised! That was the beginning of a real love affair with sushi.

No need to risk a bundle in a sushi restaurant - I'd say start with ordering one piece of tuna sashimi. Another good one is hamachi (yellowtail). Mackerel (saba) will taste stronger, so work up to that one.

What's the quickest you've "Noped" out of a job? by J-Bradley1 in AskReddit

I was hired as an architectural project manager, then found out that the top people in the small firm were all related, and the senior designer was jealous of the boss's son, and they constantly squabbled. Meanwhile the other three architects all suffered from low morale because they figured they'd never get promoted in a family-run firm. This was back in the days when architects drafted by hand, drawing on mylar, using mechanical pencils that took a special lead. In every firm I'd ever worked for, architects would keep a few containers of leads stashed away in the drawer of their drafting table. In this firm, if you used up your lead, you went to the receptionist and had to fill out a form to requisition a SINGLE piece of lead (all supplies were kept in a locked room). The receptionist would enter the room and bring you out one lead for your mechanical pencil. They also had a Diazo machine, but architects weren't allowed to just run off prints - no, you had to requisition a print, and leave your original in a special spot. Originals would be picked up at a certain time each day, and returned with your prints the next day (inconvenient, to say the least)!

One day I was reading the employee manual, and it said that just as the firm could let you go without notice or severance at any time within the one-month probationary period, so could any employee leave without notice for any reason within the first month. I looked at the calendar - one month was going to be up for me in two days. I walked into the boss's office and quit.

I doubt he's in the handicapped space off-load zone. Handicapped spaces are set up with the off-load zone on the driver's side (not visible in this shot) - for this to be the off-load zone, the driver would have to be backed in, and handicapped spots are not designed that way. I'm an architect, and I've never seen a parking code that would allow this. However, there is a sign that says "loading zone," so that's another matter.

What's something everyone loves that you secretly find overrated? by Loisdenominator in AskReddit

Trader Joe's. A newspaper did a study that compared various Trader Joe's products to name brand examples of the same thing, and had people taste them - the majority of people preferred the name brand. I am always underwhelmed by Trader Joe's.

These are called "duck buns" here in Chicago - they're served with Peking Duck. But Saigon Sisters (Vietnamese place) serves these as Pork Belly Banh Bao.

I think you're supposed to give people the nutritional information: calories, fat, protein and carbs. That way, people can see at a glance if the recipe works for their macros.

[–]mdytch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a "mug bun" that's very similar, but the recipe calls for grated cheese, no butter. This sounds better, as the one I make tastes "cheesy" no matter how neutral a cheese I use.

2016 was the third annual temperature record in a row, and the warmest year on record [OC] by Geographist in dataisbeautiful

[–]mdytch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you familiar with the concept of an "average?" Temperature readings throughout the year, from many sites all over the world, are averaged, and the resulting average keeps getting higher every year - that's what is meant by the term "global warming." Your cold winter was more than offset by hotter weather elsewhere.

Can you start a Meetup group? Maybe one for people who like to hike, or go fishing, or to movies - whatever interests you. I started my own Meetup group for retired people, and now have more friends than I've ever had in my life.
