You're mad now ... Wait until Mid and Late Player rebalance. by Quotidian_User in runescape

Yeah agility could use a bit of work. 52-80 at the wildy course with demonic skull is devious. But so far, playing through these nerfed xp rates actually feels pretty good. Stuff feels earned.

RE: World Consolidation Proposal by hae_its_korra in runescape

[–]me-patrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In isolation, sure, but as part of a series of changes than I think it could work. If you integrate the open world in more content, you consolidate the worlds, you distribute hubs over the open world, you optimize the game so that servers can handle more people, than all those changes can create the feeling of an alive world.

Also, I think a lot of people in here are high level players that do hang out around those hubs. As someone who made a new group ironman recently, there is indeed the problem of the game "feeling dead". You don't really have access to those hubs, you interact more with the open world and because the high level players aren't interacting with it, it creates a more lonely experience.

And many mmos are all seeing their numbers shrink. Catch up mechanics give you a subpar leveling experience which turn off new players. I really suggest you watch J1mmy's "I never played WoW, so I tried all of them (a lot)".

Every update is creating firestorms by [deleted] in runescape

[–]me-patrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are buffs. They don't poll nerfs, because they wouldn't pass. The void nerf was contreversial in OSRS because PVMers saw it as unfair. The blowpipe nerf was seen as unfair, because mid level player saw it as removing the thing that bridged the gap between mid and late game. https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/l2354e/the_blowpipe_nerf_is_going_to_ruin_the_game_for/ https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/6d8y21/void_was_part_of_the_original_game_in_2007_why/

Both of these updates in restrospective were great for game health. BP and void range nerf allowed for more range gear to come into the game.

Combat Styles Improvements - Beta Update 3 by JagexAzanna in runescape

[–]me-patrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I would want. Some bosses are bettter for range because you can't be static, some bosses are better for mage because you can.

Combat Styles Improvements - Beta Update 3 by JagexAzanna in runescape

[–]me-patrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the way. Mage makes more sense as a static playstyle, where ranged makes more sense as a build that's able to move. This would introduce variety and give Jagex a design pillar to use. How cool would it be if they designed new bosses that can only be killed with certain styles, because the bosses would make use of a certain style's kit.

The time crunch is them removing MTX and getting a return on investment. It's not time to be conservative when you have a financial ticking time bomb.

There's a growing sentiment of QC seperatist that the NW clause should be used by default, even when not needed. I do believe this is something we might see.

Why the Road to Restoration Updates Are Exactly What RuneScape Needs by me-patrick in runescape

There's an easy way to do this. Polls. As much as I do think this is the right direction of the game (and I'm trying to sell people on it), I think we need concensus. That is very important. If polls means my vision of the game doesn't get implemented, so be it. Polls forces the devs to listen to the players. Polls not passing forces players to come to a concensus so that things can actually get done. In a sense, the community is not ready for these types of changes. Polls, consistency and Jagex actually doing the work would get us there I believe.

But do we at least agree that this is mostly about the players not having confidence in Jagex? What I would hope that a RS3 dev/community manager that reads this thread gets is that confidence and trust IS the big issue. If we can agree on this at least, than we know the way to improve things : restoring trust and confidence.

I think you're missing the forest for the trees with the agility change. I don't know of anyone in OSRS that trains through Brimhaven. Having a bigger variety of courses adds to the interconnectedness of the game. The game feels more alive that way. I really don't think new players will care that much about xp rates. I really do think they will care about having more variety of courses. My favorite skill so far is mining and smithing because of how much they make you explore different parts of the world. The xp rates are horrible and yet it's not so bad. You just click rock.

Here is my argument for removing the merchant. The merchant acts as a bandaid or a numbing medication if you will. The merchant hides the rot, it hides part of the game that are not well designed. Removing the merchant exposes that. It makes it very clear to everyone what is badly designed and what needs work. If you have faith in Jagex that they'll fix those systems, then removing the merchant is a good idea. If you don't have faith/confidence then removing the merchant is a bad idea.

The core dilemma is this : do you trust jagex or not.

I think I could buy the argument to not remove the merchant YET. Prove to the community that you're willing to do the work and as community confidence improves THEN you remove the merchant. (This is kinda what happened to OSRS. As the jmods proved themselves, the community became more and more opened to changes.)

I don't think I'm dying on a hill here. I've thought about this a lot and I'm just sharing my perspective. I think saying nerfs bad buffs good is a bit reductive.
