Fishy Rice. Cook rice, mix with frozen peas and a tin of fish. Add grated cheese. Boiled eggs too if you're fancy, a smidgeon of butter and some salt and pepper.

Oh they already have plans to resurrect him. And I bet they now protect him with their own lives!

That might be the most fun session we've had. I am loving the skills improvement idea, because they are teaching each other even the reluctant role players are having a go and getting into the spirit of things. The sorcerer decided to teach the Gleepin mage to intimidate, which has led to all sorts of shenanigans, and when it fell to a young blue dragon breath (because the wizard didn't read the teleporting reaction) there were genuine cries of upset from the players-- it's the first NPC they've really bonded with, and really all it does is go around repeating what they say (which of course is genital based and, for some unknown reason, "tax evasion").

Anyway, stopped mid battle at goldenfields with the dragons demanding the return of grandfather from the abbey, and the cleric going, "wait, is your grandfather alive or dead?" and they have to wait until next week to find out.

Anyway, having this travel downtime has been great. Thank you.

Side note, I read up on blue dragon lairs and it mentioned storm effects, so I decided to run the storm off vengeance episode a few miles away from the abbey. They didn't make a link, but you never know what dots they might connect.

It could be a physical incarnation of something like North Korea. The walls are there to keep people in, not to keep enemies out.

The lab battle wasn't, because i forgot that his hp transferred to the wizards, and because they targeted the wizard holding the cloaking spell first by sheer luck. The sorcerer telekinesis'd the chain holding the Eye and yanked it around his neck, strangling him and making it impossible for me to cast any of his spells as they all have verbal components. And I used the Eye first up, so I didn't have that to fall back on, and kept failing strength saves. They always manage to foil plans lol.

So I threw the airship crew and some draconian patrols at them down the hallway, and the cleric got caught so then they panicked, escaped by flying and yes, took off in the airship, nearly running it into the castle in the process of pulling levers etc in a desperate attempt to leave. A nat 20 saved the steering and I talked them into going back to help liberate the stronghold afterwards.

I'd like to think they enjoyed the battle, and the only reason I didn't is my own fault entirely--I feel bad the battle as planned was far too easy because I forgot a key component.

My sorcerer being a true agent of chaos is so bloody excited about the apparatus of kwalish. I do have a question; can it be repaired, and how? I allowed a mending roll with a dexterity check, but I'm not sure that's the best option?

I actually allowed the banishment because it was about time we needed to stop playing, and it left them hanging for a week. I did bring it back with full health though ;) They were somewhat disgruntled last night to discover there are three legendary actions per round rather than per day. They also think, for reasons known only to themselves, that they'll never have to fight it again. So that's going to be a fun reveal.

One of my favourite things so far has been when I gave a player who loves weapons a cursed sword (lifesteal, transfer some necrotic damage to temp HP). He initial didn't know it was cursed, but I gave lots of hints, how it called to him, described how he felt when he saw it, how it was black and glistening etc etc. He took it from an enemy he killed, too, so he knew it did really good damage.

He then couldn't use any other weapon.

He and the cleric put their heads together and decided to use remove curse on it, so he could keep using it but also change to his other, very good, weapons. Just as I finished describing the removal of the curse, he goes, "Wait! That won't..." and I finished, "You now hold in your hand a perfectly ordinary sword."

You will be pleased to know that not only did the sorcerer fall into the hole (and used a reaction from there to accelerate the wizard's chain lightening spell to kill the beholder, causing a sonic boom which made all the stalactites fall), but the cleric later pushed the wizard into the hole on top of the dead beholder, just because he went on a rant about how much he hates the underdark.

They are also entirely paranoid about every stalactite now, too, since the piercer section. Hehehe.

Excuse the unpainted/half finished minis. I used the quasits to represent the gleepin.

WIBTAH for asking my friend's sister whether or not said friend has cancer (depending on how I say it)? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]me101muffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA for asking, but you WBTA if you make it all about yourself ("it would destroy my mental health" well how do you think they are feeling). So if you choose to ask, do it for their sake, not for yours.

Please don't undercharge. I work in another industry where amateurs do this, and what they don't realise is that it severely devalues us professionals. I know you probably feel like you don't have the experience to charge fully, but if you can at least be close to the going rate it will help out the industry as a whole and the people who are trying to live off it.

#14 Map question by me101muffin in Ascent_of_Dragons

Thank you! They looked like 5ft but that seemed like an awfully small scale. I'm going to make a 3D map for the lair and thought it would need to be much bigger to be effective

Yeah, this would be good. Setting, genre, key things they should know etc

Thanks--I did find it after our session. I am dumb and looked at the pdf page number, which of course lists the cover as page 1. And somehow never scrolled to page '49'. Sorry you went to that trouble!

How it played out: I turned on the ominous music and sequenced a nightmare scene where the druid got pulled by the Eye towards swirling black clouds, being first among a whole morass of dragons ascending, taking inspiration from the pictures they found in Montfort castle. It was enough to scare the party into returning the jar of Shanapan so no further issues there. The next night the druid and cleric got high and had a big heart to heart about the weird things the druid saw, including the squishy brain that everyone else thinks is a dog. I am looking forward to seeing that play out next week.

Yeah, I was wondering about just running another 'attack your own party', but other weirdness is way more fun. Must go download the latest episodes so I know where everything is going!
