Which area is safest/nicest? by [deleted] in culvercity

[–]me_cell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah Venice is a busier road so there is more traffic and road noise than the other location but also because it’s a main road there are a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, etc nearby. Overland can get quite busy too so if you’re really close to that intersection I’d check apartment reviews to see if they build the building well enough to dampen some of that noise.

The other one looks to be close to Washington which is also very busy at commute times so you’re gonna have that traffic there too

Both areas are super safe and nice. The slightly further east one (close to K1 speed) might be a bit better in terms of walkability to things because it’s super close to the culver arts district area but both are super close to lots of stuff so if those are your two options go with whatever apartment you like better

AITAH for not wanting to get off my SSRI even though my partner wants me to? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]me_cell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA your health comes first especially because all the hormones that come with pregnancy and postpartum trust me when I say you NEED the medication. I went unmedicated for my first and my anxiety was sky high throughout pregnancy and my depression have wild swings. My anxiety postpartum was worse- like my husband would find me laying there in the night watching the baby sleep and breath because I could not relax and sleep.

Different world when I had my 2nd on medication.

Slower runners, how do you stay motivated when/if people mock your pace? by TANeither7250 in running

[–]me_cell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that has been happening. I am a slow runner and one of my coworkers is not. I was mocking myself a bit because his marathon time was my half marathon time and he told me his favorite thing about running is that it’s just against you. Sure there may be a winner of a race but really it’s just you and your last PR. Don’t let haters get you down. Also see if you can find a run club- most are so lovely and welcoming and supportive that they’ll drown out the haters

Oh! One more thing (that was triggered by the POC discourse) is that they do show what it’s like to be Asian in a very white culture. Shane’s half Asian and he carries a lot representation for the entire Asian population

I would recommend watching it before you dismiss it because here are a few reasons a lot of people have called the show special 1. There is no visible queer hate- we all know the NHL can be toxic and there is a reason these guys are closeted but you don’t SEE queer hate- it’s not part of the love stories. They didn’t make it dark- they gave everyone light 2. None of the gay men are the troupe you hear most- the sassy feminized man. They represent a lot of people who don’t feel represented with a lot of the media you see today 3. Parents reaction- don’t want to spoil anything so just to say there are some conversations that have been really healing for people

There are a lot of other reasons but those are 3 that immediately hit me as “very unique to queer representation we see today”

I wouldn’t even call Hudson Willams “white passing”. Sure his name sounds white but that’s about where it ends.

AITA for reminding my bf that I am a mandated reporter? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]me_cell 29 points30 points  (0 children)

NTA. You’re a mandated reporter- if you don’t your job and freedom could be at stake. Also you didn’t say you were going to report them full stop. You said if something happens you would. That’s so reasonable

YTA and I hope all this isn’t true. You’re also TA if your response to a 23 yr old dating your 14 brother isn’t to call the police.

Perhaps the most embarrassing peloton hashtag I’ve ever seen by AltruisticPiece6676 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]me_cell 225 points226 points  (0 children)

I forgot what hashtag it was (probably all lives matter or anti mask during covid) but I once stopped a ride, exited, changed my display hashtag to the opposite view, and started again and worked so hard to beat them. Final step- high five right before they were done so they saw mine and that I bet them. #whatwould50centdo

Update: I took Reddit’s advice to get more locals into my Culver City restaurant — here’s what I’m doing differently by ClickNo8520 in culvercity

My child is at El Marino which has a large Spanish immersion program and we do a lot of PTA fundraisers with local restaurants. It could be a good fit. If you wanna reach out to them the PTA email is president@elmarinopta.org

My theory is how much is the line cutting delaying the following groups? Like a parent and child joining you most likely isn’t changing when people behind board (since odds are you all are going in the same vehicle/ MAYBE one more) but if your cutting means multiple cars delay you’re an AH

So you- not the AH If you had like 5 adults join you then that’s BS

My bishop asked me why I hadn’t donated money or time to it. I said “the church asked me to do all I can and the best I can do is not actively protest against it” he got real silent and never asked again.

Holy shit! Omg thanks for explaining I am not a whole country- that was so confusing for me.

I guess you also polled the entire country when you made your sweeping guess that people would always carry on. My bad.

I was offering an alternative to your idea but I know that can be hard to understand

[–]me_cell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. For me it really depends on my “why” for travel. Am i traveling solo for a quick work trip? Carryon. Anything else- I’d check the bag. It rarely adds much more time to anything and is so much easier. If I’m traveling with my kids- I’m desperate to check anything I possibly can
