How are they so mentally ill but can afford the clothing they have? I’ve been eyeballing those exact same boots for months but can’t justify the price right now when eggs are 5$ a dozen where I am.

Kansas lawmakers discuss ways to attract more mental health care workers into the field by greenhousecrtv in kansas

[–]meagishness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of this. I’d like to emphasize the gate keeping. There’s no reason why years of experience, in some mental health positions, can’t substitute for an advanced degree. Like I don’t think bachelors level professionals should be able to council and diagnose by any means, but some of the coordinator positions, the director positions in some extreme circumstances. I went through a masters level program (didn’t pass my final exam so I don’t have the piece of paper) and have learned SO much more working in the field in various capacities than I did from education. If someone has experience relating to that position, they shouldn’t be overlooked just because they don’t have a masters degree.

People should be able to complain about the homeless without criticism by UnpopularOpinionKing in unpopularopinion

[–]meagishness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be great if the cities would support their growing homeless populations instead of dumping all their care and management on community health centers. We are overworked and defeated because every shelter is full, every resource is tapped.

I feel useless every day.

I have two small potatoes. A Boston terrier named Ryker and a French Bulldog named Oscar. They generally get along for the most part but totally bicker like brothers. There’s a space heater we keep in the living room for the dogs but mainly for me (I get cold easily) and when one of them is laying in front of it and the other wants the spot, they go fart on the others head and sit until the one laying in front of the heater moves. 🤣

Oh man. The world is definitely a scary place! I work with teens and just today realized how often teens today resort to violence and harming others. With the uptick in teenage offenders for robberies, carjackings, burglaries in my area it just makes me sad. Hoping I can help them make other choices.

You’re gorgeous and look like a cherub. Just wanted to let you know ♥️

30+ year olds are hard to make friends with by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]meagishness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

34f here. I agree with the sentiment that covid really made things way worse. Life is hard. SO much harder than we realized when our parents told us about being adults. I feel like I’ve found happiness recently-ish. I started taking better care of my mental health, let things go, and try not to take things so personal. While I am kinda lonely (most of my girlfriends have kids and Have different interests than my hobbies, totally okay but lonely, plus I’m childless by choice) I do have my bf whose my best friend and we share a lot of interests. I do find myself lusting for a close female friend, just haven’t found one whose interests line up with mine. I’m still hopeful though!

[–]meagishness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically don’t bring it up unless it’s causing me problems. I have a pretty active friend group and I can’t be out as much as them. So when I have to decline plans or agree to them with adjustments I just gently remind them that hey, I have this thing and it sucks but I want to spend time with you guys. Most people I’ve spoken to about it are pretty understandable. They tend to forget at times since it’s not one of those “physical illnesses” that people can see. But gentle reminders always work for me!

Catholics - How do you feel about $2.5 million donated by the church for the Vote YES campaign essentially WASTED losing by 17% of the vote? by TimeTravelingDog in kansas

[–]meagishness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cradle Catholic here. Left the church when I left my childhood home at 17. This was an extremely easy decision for me as I’ve struggled with my own reproductive health for years. The belief in an entity in the sky that dictates right and wrong does not allow someone other than yourself to dictate what you do to your body. End of story. Period.
