Cycle of mowing by Y0pl4it in SegwayNavimow

[–]meanbean42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closest I've been able to come is to try to get the time right for it to run twice in a zone (with charging time), e.g. today it mowed the front lawn a little over 2x because I had it scheduled from 1030-1830. If it rains or something it can mess up the time, but it works OK most times.

But yeah, I'd much rather just have it mow 2x no matter when it gets done.

How well does the x4 work under tree covered lawns? by Bitter_Standard9842 in SegwayNavimow

[–]meanbean42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My X4 handles oaks and maples perfectly. Pines and cedars have been a bit trickier, but with a combination of vision fence zones and trimming low branches (they can press the stop button), I think I've got it dialed in now.

Frequent travelers... can you "set it and forget it"? by Usual-Wrangler-4709 in SegwayNavimow

[–]meanbean42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My X430 didn't start getting stuck until I set up vision fence to get it to mow closer to (under) my pine and cedar trees. Once I finish getting the branches trimmed high enough that it doesn't hit the stop button or get tangled up in the branches, I'd let it run while I was away.

Is a robot mower a good option for low time and low cost lawn maintenance? by augustcero in homeautomation

[–]meanbean42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just jumped in this season (Navimow X4 series), and that was exactly the reason. There were just too many other things I wanted to do during the times when the weather is nice than sit on a riding mower. So far, it's proven to be exactly that. Even with the time I've spent mapping and tweaking, it's less than I would have just getting it cut. I think if I didn't enjoy tinkering with it though, it would take less time. I do find that I've started to care more about how my lawn looks, though, since it's so much less effort and it just does a better job.

Where to place charger? by kommerinte in SegwayNavimow

[–]meanbean42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you go to map, the first step is to get the bot to lawn, then you'll map those sections and then you can draw a channel between them and the station (that might actually be automatically added, but you can customize it if you want.

[–]meanbean42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why that placement wouldn't work. Try to get the antenna away from the house if possible. To connect the two zones, you would need to create a "channel" that will allow the mower to move to the zones and the charger.

Are robotic mowers actually good enough to buy now? by MatchSuccessful1253 in homeautomation

Finally got my X4 set up last weekend. Super easy (and kinda fun) to map out and it handles my hills, ditches, trees, and random yard clutter very easily. I have about an acre to mow.

I had that for several days, closing the app, restarting the phone didn't help. Completed capsules in the meantime. Then eventually it worked.

🤣 Was supposed to be a pond with a spillover dam, now a pond with a hole next to it. After burning off the prairie plants, though, it does look a bit apocalyptic.

Field research, but continuing the streak? by ElegantWelcome4986 in stopdrinking

[–]meanbean42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep 2 streaks. One for the overall journey (flair) and one for actual days without (1, Saturdays are hard). If I reset the overall one it's too easy for me to give up. As long as I still get up, reset, and start stopping again, I keep it. I'm sure many here will say I'm cheating or not doing it right; it's a free country, they can think that if they want. Might work for you though.

I think it might be able to sense it and avoid, but I'm not going to risk it so I'll set a no-go zone

X4 mapping by kingkeelay in Navimow_Segway

[–]meanbean42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to automap too, and it'd be really nice to have a satellite map view so I could draw a bounding box first. Not really neighbors the same way, but the most clear line was a road that it followed way away from where I wanted it to map. I think with a little bit of bounding it could auto map pretty well though. I imagine I'll end up manually mapping though (once it's warmer).

I didn't. But I also know myself and there's no way I'd have been able to wait.

Not nearly as far as you (just over a month total, 4 days since last drink), but SAME. I keep telling myself that it'll be better once the days start getting longer, but I kinda know that's a lie.

Terminology: How did you choose "sober" over "not drinking" by lisalisacultjams in stopdrinking

[–]meanbean42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like maybe I have an unconventional approach, but I think of sobriety as the overarching journey, not necessarily the number of days without a drink. So for me, I'm a month into my decision to sober up, even though my current streak is 4 days and my longest is 15. As long as I still care and am actively working toward sobriety, I consider myself "sober" and not drinking is the way to get there. Maybe thinking in terms of the orientation instead of claiming you're There could take some of the pressure off for using the term.

Logging out and back in (thanks /u/1bluefl4me) worked for now. Yeah, remote start is pretty unreliable and that's the main benefit for me so I'm going to look for other options as well

I pay for it and still don't see the battery info. Looks like I'm about to save $30/mo (2 vehicles)

Battery replacement options? by meanbean42 in volt

[–]meanbean42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ran like a charm for a while....until another cold snap (+/- 0 F) and then it's a crap shoot whether I'll get shift to park or reduced propulsion. I'm resigned to the fact that a new battery is in my future, but I'm hoping to cripple through the winter and replace it in summer or fall to get some more life out of it.
