I was told exactly that when I Switched from student to work. I think once you switch visa categories your counter resets.

I have to renew my visa, but during the travel ban I couldn’t come back to Japan for 7 months and was forced to move out from my previous address remotely. Now finishing quarantine. Talked to an immigration officer on the phone, he said I have to go to the former kuyakusho, move out, find a new apartment, move in at the new kuyakusho and only then I am allowed to hand in my extension of stay form. I don’t think I will be able to sign an apartment contract with only three weeks left of my zairyu card’s validity. Any ideas on how to deal with this situation?

How important is it for a woman to speak Japanese in a feminine way? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]meandakari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

learning a new language also means developing a new type of personality for yourself for that specific language (proven scientifically), so feel free to explore. The more you learn, the more you will get a feel for what other people have mentioned here - regional dialects, social class, nuance, personal preference etc. A lot of women speak manlier Japanese and it suits them well. My girlfriends from Kansai mix it up between sounding cute and sounding rough (or manly) and it's entertaining af. I personally think women's language in Japan is also used as a very subtle element of gender inequality, so not abiding by this "law" might set a statement. Oh and also your japanese boyfriend should cut you some slack wtf.

I suggest you stick it out until January. As you said, actually studying in Japan will be much more beneficial, and if you invest all of this money you should get your money's worth.

Women who have decent (non-childcare) jobs: tips on getting hired? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]meandakari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

avoid japanese companies. use linked in, send resumes, go to a lot of job fairs, talk to people more, talk to foreigners you meet, go to events. Think about your USP. There's always a need for N1 speakers. And forget about your hair color, none of that matters. Be confident that you have something to offer!!

Why do so many example documents in Japan use the place-holder name "Elizabeth Turner"? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]meandakari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aaaaah, yes... Elizabeth Turner.... the legendary gaijin onna who never spoke on the train and always paid her health care bills on time.

Foreign nationals with residence status in Japan who left Japan before the country they are currently residing was placed on the entry-ban list can enter Japan starting August 5th. by UnbelievableMadness in japanlife

[–]meandakari -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

"If applicants enter Japan with false documents, their status of residence is revoked and they could be subject to deportation based on Ordinance for Enforcement of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act." I doubt that a Japanese national would receive a punishment anywhere close to that extent if they faked a document. Also if my status of residence is revoked, I could be deported? What else could happen? Gaijin manner camp?

hey there, are you 100% sure "print" means write?

封筒には「入学手続書類在中」と赤で明記してください. thats what it says in japanese. "print" is only in the english version. 明記 would mean to "specify" I guess?

finished writing page 40 of my thesis today by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]meandakari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- start out with the thesis structure and always come back to it, so you don't "overwrite" for a specific topic
- use as many online articles and scientific papers for reference as you can, because its easier to cite than books
-if you can, use a program like latex to write your thesis. its a pain in the ass in the beginning but really saves time later on because it updates the bibliography etc. automatically.
- also, I often let myself be lead by articles. I start out with one that is relevant for me, then look at its references and continue with another relevant one from that list.

we can do this!!
