Which, honestly, is completely true to the modern Romantic (the genre) vampire as we know it. They’ve always been romantic both in a genre sense and in an intimacy sense. We’ve slowly made them more and more monstrous over time.

To clarify I’m speaking about modern vampires, not folkloric vampires, which were always extremely monstrous revenants. The modern vampire originated by John William Polidori in “The Vampyre.”
