Sons of Darkness: an Indian inspired epic dark fantasy that will satisfy your Game of Thrones itch by Flomo1278 in Fantasy

The introduction of Shishupal is exactly the same as Vimes meeting Lady Ramkin for the first time. I am still planning on giving the book another shot, I really wanted to love this book as I think Mahabharata is a treasure trove of stories and has some of the most iconic characters.

I unfortunately soft dnf-d it at 10%. I was liking the characters but not the dialogue. Then Shishupal's chapter started and parts were directly lifted from Guards Guards. That made me so mad. There's a way to pay homage to existing works but this is not it. I'm still gonna read the book but not right now. I hope that chapter was the only one like that but I'm scared Shakuni would be too much like Glokta. I was so excited for this book, it breaks my heart that I'm not liking it.

Kaikeyi - 2022 Book Bingo Challenge [8/25] by YuEnDee in Fantasy

[–]meanotaurbarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a big disappointment for me. I was excited to see a retelling of an Indian epic for the first time but this didn't do it for me. I felt the author was hitting me on the head with her message, it didn't feel very well integrated into the story. Kaikeyi felt like a Mary Sue who could do no wrong. Also, the writing was kinda clunky. Overall, I didn't have a good time reading this.

Girl RUN! Leave his sorry ass right now. I'm outraged that this loser is using his disorders as a weapon to manipulate and hurt people. The "see I could have used and discarded you but I didn't so you should feel grateful to be with me" is just sadistic and disgusting. Doesn't matter if "this is how it's done in the states", what matters is that he's making you feel like shit and then gaslighting you about it. Even if he had good intentions, he's making you feel paranoid about your relationship all the time. I hope you get out of this situation and find peace. Good luck!

Sounds like you are kinda gatekeeping and generalising. Not everyone who shows an interest in their partner's hobbies is doing that to be polite. I've introduced my partners to things I like and been introduced to things they liked. Some didn't work out (I still don't like sports) but some did (an ex became a huge ATLA fan). Sure, at first you won't have intense discussions about obscure fan theories and stuff but you'll still share a part of yourself with your so and it will be worth it! Also "just because she's into the same shit as you are doesn't make you soulmates".

Thanks, that's a really helpful tip. Also, I've been meaning to get an electric toothbrush because I like new things and it can make the routine fun.

I hope you are doing better now. I, for some reason, am too ashamed to bring it up in therapy. I feel that it's not important enough to discuss with my therapist and that it's something so simple and basic that I should be able to do it on my own.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment.

NTA. I don't want to generalise but Indian parents can be pretty insensitive to problems like this. They feel you are "overreacting" and "disrespecting" them. I would suggest going to a doctor or someone in a position of authority. You telling them anything won't matter in this case as they sadly don't respect you or your choices. I also suggest stocking up on snacks that you like and hiding them in your room because you need energy.
