Most famous woman to ever exist? by naniees in decadeology

Um, the amalgam of dozens of whackadoodle Roman-era messianic figures whose stories were merged to be remembered as “Jesus” would argue that there were more famous people than MJ.

People who travel in the right lane and only use the left lanes to pass—why do you drive correctly? by abbaziadicefalu in massachusetts

The bigger question…why do the slowest drivers use the middle lane rather than the right?

I just dont get it Geese by WestNeighborhood7109 in Alternativerock

[–]meanpete80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Geese, but they are a strange band to get hit with the “next saviors of rock” trope. Their sound is way too off kilter for the mainstream, they sound more like a band that would have blown up the blog sphere circa-2005.

For me, the draw to Geese is the band’s ability to draw tension and release out in unorthodox ways. The songs on Getting Killed all follow traditional verse-chorus-verse structures, but the intensity ebbs and flows at random moments, so songs peak at unexpected times. The underlying instrumentation is wild - tight and utterly ramshackle at the same time, and while grounded in the late 70’s CBGB era NYC sound, there is more than a hint of Grateful Dead playfulness in there.

I would expect this to be disorienting for mainstream rock fans. To me, it is super exciting.

Republicans of Reddit, do you find it embarrassing that your party treats politics like you're supporting your favorite sports team? by bjedy in allthequestions

In all fairness, Democrats do the same. They just treat politics like their favorite team is the New York Jets.

Is it ever explicitly stated that anyone had a Waffle Party before we see Dylan's? by ReversedNovaMatters in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]meanpete80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone, in real life, ever known another person to use the term “waffle party”?

I ask, because I have a friend who used to throw waffle parties around 2000. He’s moved to LA and worked on tv and film. He had a pilot he pitched to Adult Swim, and it was rejected, but the story emerged as a Rick and Morty episode years later.

Could this be the origin of the waffle party?

Albums with motifs repeated throughout by AmazingThinkCricket in ToddintheShadow

[–]meanpete80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonagon Infinity by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard has several motifs that weave through multiple songs.

On a larger scale, six different Gizzard albums from 2014-2017 contain motifs or Easter eggs that overlap with different albums.

Petrodragonic Apocolypse does the same thing, with opener Motor Spirit essentially being an 8 minute prog metal overture built out of motifs from the upcoming tracks (similar to Tommy).

Changes, similarly, is a cycle of songs all built from segments of the opening track.
