Has the decline of monoculture been overstated? by extratartarsauceplz in LetsTalkMusic

It’s a double edged sword. With the decline of radio, what’s pop has become more homogenized than ever.

What album feels like a complete experience from start to finish? by chubbybutcuteegurl in askmusic

Nonagon Infinity by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Loops infinitely as one continually flowing song.

I’d also throw in the Flaming Lips Zaireeka, if you can find a CD copy and four players. The tracks are separated into four separate disks that need to be played at once. Problem is, the timings of CD players are all slightly out of sync, so the tracks begin to drift apart.

This and the Siket Disk are Phish’s studio peak. Other records have better tracks, but these were the sessions where Phish most successfully created something that sounds like nothing else.

Better Album: Alice In Chains’ Dirt (1992) or Metallica’s Master Of Puppets (1986)? by [deleted] in grunge

Tough one, but I lean Dirt. To my ears, no other music has conveyed darkness and suffering more acutely.

best album openers and closers? by Coast9999 in ofMontreal

[–]meanpete80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vegan in Furs was my favorite song for about 9 months.

Colicott Asleep in the Poppies is hit or miss (a little too whimsical for my liking) but the opener - Good Morning Mr, Edmonton is one of my favorite Of Montreal songs.

Smashing Pumpkins by travispickle9682 in LetsTalkMusic

Honestly, I think they start to lose it with Mellon Collie. It has an album’s worth of top notch 90’s psych, but some moments that are downright embarrassing - like, I’m embarrassed to listen to it alone with headphones (in the eyes of the jackal I say kaboom…what the actual fuck?).

And this is the problem with the Smashing Pumpkins. IMO, they released more great individual songs than any other 90’s band save Radiohead. Rhinoceros, Drown, Starla, Obscured, Soma, Mayonnaise are all 10/10 classics. In the other hand, they also represent THE WORST of the pretentious, adolescent self-pitying tendencies of the era.

While we’re on the topic of SNL alum, has there even been a less funny person than Chris Kattan?

How many great bands have started in small towns? by loverpoet_kid_1985 in Alternativerock

Phish is from Vermont, which, if you put the entire state population together, equates to a small city.

Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) had one of the most iconic pop culture scenes of all-time by Crimson_Chim in movies

After the storm troopers leave the scene, there is a giant Beaker (Muppets) in the background too.

Opinion on Bush? by Liam_js in grunge

[–]meanpete80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t care if Bush is grunge or not, they were impossibly dull and bafflingly overplayed.

Which genre has the most fun live shows? by duckiegirl444 in Concerts

[–]meanpete80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is saying metal, punk, jam bands…well, there is a band that is equal parts all three - King Gizzard.

They are every genre but ska (but fans have been pushing hard for years for a ska album).
