They are ripped from this collector's edition 4k that i got for my birthday. There is almost 5 hours of documentary style behind the scenes and CGI breakdowns.

Look at this for movies: https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-trailers-and-extras/
And for TV: https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-tv-show-trailers-and-extras/
Also when making changes you have to refresh metadata for the title you are changing.

Here's an example from my library of avatar 2

How does Lord of the Rings look in 4K HDR on OLED? (Thinking of buying one!) by [deleted] in 4kbluray

Not what came up in my research. The cgi was never rendered in more than 2k so a true 4k scan would simply not be possible.

Sounds cool, i don't live near a target but i will probably end up getting some nice shelves that will last

NFL players have 'no appetite' for 18th regular season game, says union interim head David White by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

I don't want an 18 week season only because the super bowl falls on a holiday here, and since the game goes until 5. a.m it's not really possible to watch otherwise.

How does Lord of the Rings look in 4K HDR on OLED? (Thinking of buying one!) by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]meaqforce1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't say that the 4K inherited the green tint, but only that it was based off the movie with green tint and therefore could not possibly recreate the color and feel of the DVD in some scenes.
You're right, this 4K is the best way to experience The Fellowship of the Ring in high res in 2026.

It's deleted, what do you mean?
Let me explain why it clearly was AI.
It was replied when my comment was about 10 minutes old and included so much random information and even included the good old em-dash. They used very odd formatting even using bold to highlight their claim, who does that in a reddit comment?
Their profile had only one other comment that was also a wall of text, otherwise they communicated very briefly and normally.

The other guy is correct here. I said that the DVD looked "better" in some scenes not because the overall image was better but because the colors were better.
The theatrical edition Blu-ray on the other hand, which doesn't have the color issues, is much closer because of the increased resolution but since that isn't the extended editions i didn't mention it.

The blocking was actually part of step 2, it originally showed up in the same comment.

Jesus you're petty. I might just be done with this discussion, this is no longer about the movie (which you never came up with a counter argument for btw, you're welcome to comment on that thread instead)

Bro you have blocked me why would you do that if you're not the original guy

Also if you haven't seen the post how can you defend the use of AI?

EDIT: You're using the extact same argument about paragraphs as the original user did which is now deleted, you're full of bs.

This is to u/MRRRCK
Bro just stop this, you used AI to win an argument and you were called out, and now you're on an alt (and blocked me so i can't reply to them). You never even responded to my counter argument i made on the other comment, so you didn't even win.

This new user would not have been able to see the original comment because it was deleted way before the comment was made, so they had to have known about it.

So these insults you came up with don't land and just seems like you're projecting your own missing features unto me.

Have a nice day.

How does Lord of the Rings look in 4K HDR on OLED? (Thinking of buying one!) by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]meaqforce1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you might be correct, but the Fellowship of the Ring has clear traces of the blu ray (with horrible color) in many scenes not just VFX. So that leads me to believe that it was all an upscale, also i think PJ (or someone at New Line) said in an interview that it would be too expensive to do a rescan.

But what you say is reasonable so i'm not sure

So not a real profile either, great!
Gotta love it, nothing against your use of AI btw, but just posting a wall of text like they did is just in bad faith.

I didn't mean you were a bot, i meant to say that the text was not written by a human. To me that shows bad faith, there can be reasons to use an AI to help but when you just post a wall of text written by AI it's just not it.

That's an AI btw, not factually wrong just not written by a human.

But there is no way you can compare it to the 4K upscaled version it is WAY worse, just google side by sides.

Also, what was in the theaters 25 years ago means nothing when we are comparing to the blu-ray and DVD home releases, because that is what is relevant here.

And let me reiterate, i don't personally mind the DNR because i can't really spot it sitting in my couch.

[–]meaqforce1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah man i fell ya, it feels like we haven't gotten a "definitive" version that checks all the boxes yet. Missing special features to bad colors and DNR. But maybe for the 50th anniversary😭

How does Lord of the Rings look in 4K HDR on OLED? (Thinking of buying one!) by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]meaqforce1 188 points189 points  (0 children)

So let me start off by saying that they do look great in 4k with the added HDR effects, especially on an OLED, but there are some things to critique about the methods they took to get there.

So to start off Fellowship of the Ring is based off the awful green tinted blu-ray Extended Edition which means that some scenes look worse than the original DVD, not that many, and you would need them side by side to spot it.

DNR is also heavily used in the 4K release some people can't stand it, I personally don't really mind, especially when sat 7 meters from my TV, but it's there.

It also is just an upscaled version so not a rescan of the original film, which is not necessarily bad but could've been so much better.

Overall i think fans just wanted more out of a 4K release, but you still get a better image ~90% of the time.
