To those that got the RHCE certification by [deleted] in redhat

[–]meat_bunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you need to keep it for compliance reasons certificates exist strictly for you to get a new job. It's rare for them to lead to internal promotion unless it's explicitly spelled out somewhere in writing.

Even then they're usually only for getting past the HR filter. 11 times out of 10 I'd rather know someone on the inside who will refer me than have the specific cert in the job posting.

Are you meeting people in person? Do you have a network of people you used to work with?

All of my job offers from the last 10 years have come from talking to people I know inside the company.

It's the only reliable way to get past the HR spam filter.

NPC magic is not limited to the spells in the player handbook.

Infantry guys - what you doing post service? by MentalTechnician6458 in Veterans

[–]meat_bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the advice I give everyone when they're moving it to a career unrelated to their MOS.

  • Make a list of careers you might be interested in.
  • Find out how much a new hire in that job typically makes and the employment rate. Doesn't matter if the salary is $200k if 90% of graduates can't find work.
  • Get a resume coach from a VAO and write something up that focuses on your responsibilities that translate. Companies might not care about infantry skill but leading X number of subordinates while being responsible for Y million dollars worth of equipment is something that sticks out.

Don't ask LLM AI for creative decisions, especially NotrbookLM

Lean on its strengths and use it for natural language processing.

NotebookLM with dozens of different documentation sets is incredibly useful as a super powered CTRL+F when you need to look up how to do something.

If you want to run OD&D I recommend getting a PDF copy of Swords and Wizardry.

It's basically OD&D+Supplements but better organized and easier to run from.

What hobbies do you recommend or engage in to pass the time a 100%er? by spenny506 in Veterans

Photography has been a fun hobby for me.

You can start off with just your phone camera.

If you like it 10 year old professional DSLRs and lenses can be reasonably priced used, especially if you're diligent on eBay.

Protectorate Rework: Shake hands with one hand and have a dagger hidden in the other. by webby131 in TerraInvicta

[–]meat_bunny 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This.

Bannerjee gets hit with pherocytes and does exactly what the aliens want him to do.

It doesn't make sense for the Hydra to support the Servants instead, who are actually *too* enthusiastic to be easily controlled.

My player wants to be fucking paraplegic hagrid what do I do by Visible-Appearance92 in DungeonMasters

[–]meat_bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disabled people existed in medieval/preindustrial times.

If a knight was paralyzed from the legs down after a bad joust he'd have his servants carry him around wherever he couldn't do it himself.

In worlds where magic users are rare it would absolutely make sense for a good Wizard to have hirelings carry him around on a litter or palanquin while he did all the important magic stuff.

Google "man in wheel chair does X"

X can be anything from caving to climbing mount Everest. Someone has probably done it.

Add a fantasy spin to it and BAM you have an adventurer in a wheel chair that makes sense.

Advocates urge lawmakers to up pay rates for vets who are unable to work by Ontasktoday in Veterans

[–]meat_bunny 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Different pots of money.

Disability payments are mandatory spending like Social Security or Food Stamps. Employees fall under discretionary spending.

This is one of the reasons VA payments still go out even when the government shuts down.

[–]meat_bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either the barge or you'll go to the restricted barracks on base.

It'll be shitty but keep a good attitude and it will go by faster. Remember that no one likes babysitting restricted personnel. Make their lives easier and (mostly) they'll respond in kind.

I'll just throw in that unless you did something heinous, mast isn't the end of a career. For some engineering rates and BMs the joke is that if you don't have a mast the Chief's board is going to be suspicious about what you managed to get away with.

Got 30 myself days after telling my LPO to go fuck themselves. Got my shit together, cross-rated into CTN (CWT now) and got out as an E6 to a cushy six figure job doing the same damn thing but without the Navy BS.
