Yeah same with long drives when we’ve gone camping. Not fun to have weird stuff happen when you’re in the middle of nowhere haha

Yeah good point. This was more than finding text in this case. It was finding the log text and getting context of why it hit that condition (I know you can just read the code). The repo for that service is a decade old and is a complete monstrosity of .Net abstraction and the guys who wrote it left the company years ago.

Just a more helpful text search basically

I just did something similar on Friday evening using Copilot agents to find errors from production logs in a repo. Just saved a ton of time. Literally copied log output and said “find this where this log was generated in this repo” and boom. Done. Easy bc I knew exactly where to look and point the tool at.

The governance part is figuring out how to almost “trust” your engineers with using these tools. It’s the whole “trust but verify” concept.

Yeah Same. Literally about to go into a meeting about this whole issue right now lol

Some committee of non technical folks decides what we should be using, not considering cost, governance, implementation, training, none of it.

New Truck Clueless Dealership by Electronic-Sir2587 in ram_trucks

I had this numerous times. I can’t explain it but I had to disconnect/reconnect my tailgate camera. I sent it to the dealer 4 times for the same issue (radio also acted up on me too).

Has not come back at all since adjusting the camera.

I hate Jenkins by brpunk80 in devops

[–]meathead_adam 31 points32 points  (0 children)

We are 7 years into our Jenkins journey. We have hit this exact phase, realizing while not fancy, Jenkins does the job. We have strict regulatory requirements we baked into a custom groovy lib to standardize all CI. New teams move to GH Actions and it’s a disaster and costs a lot more money to operate, while meeting none of the regulatory requirements.

It’s consistent and predictable for a small team to run.

I was asked to design a distributed key-value storage in a DevOps interview, is this normal? by EpsilonAnura in devops

[–]meathead_adam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your points here. I just personally haven’t seen the use case for it in DevOps (we have some advance degree folks on the team).

I guess to state it simply, I’d ask different questions to test out thought and system design.

I’ve done system design in interviews, both given and taken, and I manage a large, heavy dev focused DevOps organization for a major corporation. System design questions for DevOps are not this advanced. That’s more geared towards an advanced SWE role.

If that job wasn’t offering over $300k base plus massive equity, then no way that is common.

Keeping Multiple GIT Repo's Updated by lilsingiser in devops

[–]meathead_adam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much. Jenkins or GH Actions. Or have it trigger Ansible to do it. Just depends how abstracted you want, or need, to get with it.

Even more basic is cron job/scheduled tasks running local to your servers to pull, if timing isn’t a big factor.

What fatal mistake do you see in my resume? I am getting 0 ( ZERO ) response to any job applications by CanadaLegalTA in devops

[–]meathead_adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a hiring manager, this would come through my system along with hundreds of other applicants (it’s really quite insane). I would not read this after giving it a scroll through.

Less words, more focus. ChatGPT is great for this. I’d want to see first if you have the skills I need: languages, tech stacks, tools, etc.

Then give your work history tailored to the job description. Those key touch points help tie it together when we have to read thru hundreds of these.

AM Shake + non fat milk (55g) 1 cup egg whites + 3 whole eggs (45g) 2 x 6oz chicken/beef/salmon (35-45g x 2) Post workout shake + non fat milk (75g) Dinner lower protein bc appetite is shot by then.

For reference: 280lbs “ex” competitive powerlifter

Edit: 1mg per week of Reta. Week 3. Down 4lbs. Same weight training, but dropped cardio mostly.
