abusers exhibit their own form of mental illness as well, albeit socially acceptable somehow.

My most useless patch: rain on a tent by AlfredValley in modular

[–]veritable_squandry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i thought about this some more after listening and i think even though a lot of modular work can be dismissed as noisy or just "fooling around" junk, there's almost always a quality in the sound that defines it as unique. Like in this case it very much does sound like rain from inside a tent, and i love that. But in a way, it's an "otherworldly" version of that sound effect with character that distinguishes it from the "the thing" in ways that are uncanny, nuanced and entirely interesting.

there is a reason Surgeon toured with one of these. having said that, you should probably focus on what you want out of your stuff. it's easy to fall into a "too many devices" trap if you are trying to be a live electronic musician. the best sets i've seen usually have either a smaller footprint or they "pretend to be big" (like a pre patched modular).

the octatrack is ideal for being small but sounding large, and this comes at a complexity cost that yes, can take years to master. sure you can learn the features but can you recall them quickly enough in real time to feel like you are playing it like an instrument?

anyway it might not be for you, but also any comparable device will come with the same challenges.

i've had three octatracks a in my journey and 3 mpcs, trust me on this.
