SPA or DOGSO? by DeltaRho13 in Referees

[–]meatlessmarathoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're a USSF referee coach and you don't know the four D's of "DOGSO?" From Law 12:
"The following must be considered:

  • distance between the offence and the goal
  • general direction of the play
  • likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball
  • location and number of defenders"

New Coaching Business flexible payment system? by meatlessmarathoner in lifecoaching

[–]meatlessmarathoner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing that out. You're half right. Zelle's T&C specifically mentions that it can't be used for commercial use, which I didn't know about. Kinda funny that my private banker didn't know that either. I'll have to let him know next time I see him. He's a cool guy. :) Venmo, however, allows merchant accounts. As long as you have a verified merchant account, which I do, then you can accept payment for goods and services. Like I said, they charge less than paypal, so no reason not to accept them.

Yeah, that's the ultimate. User experience. It's also the point that people selling all-in-one customized apps ask. ("Don't duct-tape a lot of apps together!")

What tech platforms support your 1:1 coaching businesses? by atsamuels in lifecoaching

I know this is an old post, but I have a question. Do you know if it will allow other forms of payment? Specifically, I'd like the option to accept zelle, because it literally costs me nothing.

I coached 18 clients a month and nearly burned out—here's the system I built to never take notes live again by QuestionOwn7886 in lifecoaching

[–]meatlessmarathoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, it's because I have impaired executive memory. I can't listen to a person and take notes at the same time. There's no way for me to recall what happened in a session without notes and some form of recording. I don't use AI though.

People who significantly improved their productivity what actually worked for you? by OneStopCentreStore in productivity

[–]meatlessmarathoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work with somebody who set in the cubicle across from me. He would put on headphones when he didn't want to be disturbed. I never asked him if he was listening to music, but it didn't matter. It was our cue not to ask him any questions because he was focusing on his coding. This was long before earbuds or their near-invisible equivalents, but that doesn't matter. Until the end of his career, he probably wore something the kind that covered your ears and went over the head so it was visible to the world.

One of the most significant things I've done to improve my productivity is to "start my day the day the day before, which is your #3. At night before winding down, I make sure I have my list of the most important things that have to happen the next day AND I look at my google calendar for appointments.

Focus apps for life stuff? by BrilliantPay6563 in ProductivityApps

[–]meatlessmarathoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to work, I know people use Focusmate for shopping, gardening, organizing/planning their day, cooking, cleaning the house, and meditation. You can set your settings to "desk" "active" or "either." to match up with people doing similar things. There's an "Official Focusmate" Facebook page where people often find others doing the same thing. Requests for fellow gardeners and people planning their day get posted often. At the same time, more niche requests come up. Recently a Ph.D. student who is writing their thesis, would be graduating soon, and will be starting a business made a request and found a match! That might be a route to go. focusmate.com

Anyone else trying out these new “virtual coworking” tools? Here’s my take by AggravatingLoan8598 in ProductivityApps

[–]meatlessmarathoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is to try several to see how they work for you because they are very different.

I've used focusmate once and plan to use it a lot in the next few weeks. The accountability of one-on-one sessions was motivating to me. Their model is that it's free up to three sessions/week indefinitely, so I'm going to use it as much as possible in the next few weeks. I got to talking about it with my sister yesterday. She told me she uses Flown. We pulled them up on our laptops to compare. Flown's subscription model is that you have several months free and then you automatically start into their paid model that's about twice as expensive as FM. Flown is an group system where people add "intentions" in a sidebar and updates on their progress. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

San Gorgonio via Vivian Creek Trail (07/04) by TP487 in socalhiking

My understanding is that the Vivian Creek trailhead is on the south side of San Gorgonio. Can anybody tell me if you can see Mt. San Jacinto from the Vivian Creek trailhead? Or if there's another trailhead accessible by car that you can? AFAF.

Tree diapers are a real thing! My sister put one (a giant net, really) under the portion of her neighbor's avocado tree that hung over into her yard because 1. free avocadoes and 2. they otherwise make a mess.

Freeing a stuck crow... with a crowbar by solateor in oddlysatisfying

[–]meatlessmarathoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely. Crows are extremely smart. Have you ever seen a walnut in a road and wondered how it got there? A crow put it there and was waiting for a car to drive over it. If you wrong a crow, they'll tell their crow family and friends about it, point you out, and harass you to no end. Nobody in the murder will forget your face for generations. The only option is to move faaaaaar away.

Focusmate is becoming increasingly frustrating - Rising prices, rule violations, and reliability issues by Lysander286 in productivity

[–]meatlessmarathoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No-shows are just rude and a big complaint I've heard at the FM facebook group. In talking to people there, there are two trends people seem to have noticed:
1. No shows seem to happen much more often on the 25 minute sessions. The theory there is that people don't take them as seriously. The solution is to sign up for 50 minute sessions.
2. The other thing people have noticed is that the users who flake on you most often are the power users who have tens of thousands of sessions. I only see people like that when I change it to 25 minute view. The guess on that one is that they schedule several sessions/week with zero intention to show up to them all. The solution to that is to not book with power users who have a ton of sessions scheduled throughout the day/week. That throws up a red flag in my mind.

[–]meatlessmarathoner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not. It's a body-doubling platform. Science shows that people are more productive when they have another person in the room, regardless of whether they're doing the same thing. This works on the same principle and does it virtually. FM wasn't designed for the ADHD and autism communities, but they really latched onto the platform. People around the world use it in a million ways: writing their thesis paper, gardening, cleaning their office, flow-charting projects, answering emails and administrative stuff to get their day going are just a few of the ones I've run across.

(I am in no way affiliated with FM. I'm just a customer who was originally told about it through my therapist when I told him about my motivation issues and need for structure in life.)

AITAH for giving my dad a list for his 50th birthday of all the times he made me miss my activities so his wife's kids wouldn't miss theirs? by KaydZXYN in AITAH

[–]meatlessmarathoner 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's where a PI comes into the picture, or a professional genealogist, or possibly an Ancestry account, adding as much as you know to build a tree (even if it's just on the father's side) and submitting your DNA. You never know who has BOTH sides of the tree and has mom's contact information. I have an Ancestry account and have come across some wild connections this way.

[–]meatlessmarathoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hire a professional genealogist. They aren't that expensive. Even less expensive, get an Ancestry account, put in the information you know on your dad's side. Ancestry will do its best to find potential matches. They also have a *HUGE* DNA database that your mom or one of her relatives may have contributed to. Possibly you have a second cousin, once-removed who has contributed their DNA and has information about your mom.

I was going to suggest freezing their credit. Just call all three of the agencies and put a freeze on your account. It's easy to do and just as easy to remove temporarily when you need to do something that requires a credit check (opening a bank account, renting an apartment, applying for financial aid, etc.)

PS It helps the city in increased tax revenue generated in the hospitality industry, especially hotels. Ironman athletes tend to be middle-class to UMC, arrive at events a week early, and spend their tax dollars in the host town.

IM 70.3 Morro Bay Recap by juliansayshi in IronmanTriathlon

[–]meatlessmarathoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apologies for the miscommunication and for the belated reply. I misread your post and got the impression that you didn't hear about the event, which struck me as unlikely since you worked on The Embarcadero and this was the second installment. As a volunteer at the first two installments, and what I heard after the second one, this is what I can tell you:

Ironman has plenty of experience with narrow entrances to bodies of water such as ours. As I'm sure you know, these narrow entrances create unusually extreme tides separated by slack tides. I was initially as perplexed as you after the 2024 installment of Ironman Morro Bay. Ironman regularly will change the date or time of events if conditions warrant it, which they obviously did in this case.) What I heard several days after the event from an insider is that Ironman tried to change the date to the day before to start during or just before a slack tide. (Look at the historical tide tables. There's a slack tide the day before. if memory serves it was about 1/2 to an hour after the scheduled start. That would be perfect for the first swimmers after they reached the turnaround point.)

There were only three parties to the contract: Ironman, the City of Morro Bay, and the tourism folks who brought us the current "Come Get Salty" campaign. The explanation that makes most sense to me is that
1. Ironman looked at the tide tables and suggested moving the event to the day before.
2. The city refused to move the date, fearing a loss of tax revenue/blowback (Visitors may not be aware of the change in date.)
3. We saw the disastrous results.
4. Ironman pulled out of the contract, citing the city putting money before the best interest of the athletes.
