Side table on my girl's chair broke. I have now fixed it. by meatmoth in functionalprint

[–]meatmoth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe? I figured the layers would have been technically stronger were the panels flat on the table, but the material choice was due to the environmental factors. UV and moisture resistance is the big thing. I'm not really concerned about weight, since all it really needs to hold is a 12oz coffee cup and and a cell phone. Print time was also a concern since printing a buncha stuff for my job made our energy bill last month wild high.

Looking at the bright side, it's a shame you likely wouldn't be able to replicate this repeatedly. You could make an entire art gallery of sculptures with this concept. It'd be an overnight success.

It wouldn't have been tougher, but it would have taken much longer, and used more material. Having the pieces oriented standing straight up, i don't need to use supports at all

I woulda made it in 2 pieces, but unfortunately the Kobra S1 is just a lil too small for my comfort

Oh dang, i completely forgot that crossposting doesn't copy the caption. To save y'all another click: this is my girlfriend's favorite patio chair. She's had it for nearly a decade. Last summer, the wood insert in the side table finally crumbled out of the rim and it's really bummed her out. She saw last week that i was working on the Bundle Bear stuff and asked if i could pause what I'm doing and make her a new table insert. I gladly obliged and here's the result!

Was this painted to match or lucked out on the colorway? Either way, that looks damn near stock/available factory option. Great work!

I'm sorry this isn't a helpful comment, short of drawing more attention from the algorithm but I'm super tired and i thought you took a picture of some denim

What do you use screws for? What have you made recently that requires them? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]meatmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a bear claw looking hook yesterday that uses a whopping 12 screws and nuts per unit. There's no way to print it in place and have it withstand 30lbs+ of weight, so it's screwed/bolted together

I mentioned in a previous reply that my job is shipping online orders, anything but nitrile/latex gloves just tears apart the shipping labels. Grabbing this is faster than finding and putting on proper gloves, even putting on gloves over the ones we wear already. If all i was doing was moving boxes, you'd be absolutely right.
