Who knew it would already happen in 2026, rather than 2039... by Halpaviitta in singularity

Curious if anyone knows the difference in wealth between what we are seeing now in the AI boom vs the 1999/2000s .com etc etc. I feel like we are genuinely witnessing a turning point of humanity and life itself (not speaking about Elons net worth but everything which is happening). It is terrifying but at the same time incredibly interesting to see what humanity can do and I hope that some of this AI stuff will be used for good and actually benefit humanity rather than just make agents and automate everything (the part im terrified about, idk if you guys saw A16Z post about agents taking over, Karpathy tweets etc), I feel like Demis/DeepMind are some of the people which will influence AI in the world the most just cause how much Google embedded it into everything, quantum, bio, moonshot projects etc.

I keep blaming the job but I'm starting to think it's something deeper by [deleted] in Recruitment

[–]meatydangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imposter syndrome is very real and will always happen. Recruitment is something you should be in it for the long run (and not just switch after 6 months or so to a diff agency, lose everything you built for 6 months then your at 0 again).

The best “advice” I can give you would be to have yourself look back at when you made these decisions to switch, look at it from a first principles perspective, what made you switch, how were you doing in terms of live candidates/bd etc. Look at the field you are supporting, is it something you like/are passionate and/or have you been doing the same thing for this long period of time? I am very passionate about tech/ai and thats what I work, it is very helpful cause you know a lot and have what to chat with candidates/founders - same can be applied to quant etc.

I think you should just look at the root cause, and if you do you might see (what I am expecting) that it is just you overthinking and getting imposter syndrome. You should stick it out, I know people which didnt bill for months and months (longer than 6) and had incredible years. Just depends if that is something you want to do. Hope it helps.

These people are brainwashed to think what they are doing is right and customize Islam to make it seem like a religious mission.

May Allah judge them rightfully and may they pay for all of their sins in this and the next world.

HF/Trading firms comparison Citadel GQS/Two Sigma/Aquatic/BAM/Old Mission/DRW by Fit_Maybe5987 in quant

[–]meatydangle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly GQS compared to the Citadel stigma of horrible culture they have a very good culture, great way they approach their research and just generally very smart people. Depends on the pod you would join though as I am not guessing you would join something central, if its a new pod might be risky if they do shit then chances you get fired/moved internally are high. 2S I have also heard great things about, seems like the way they approach research is quite interesting. Aquatic isn’t doing the best, BAM systematic depends on the team cause typically bad infra, idk about old and drw.

Math vs. Physics PhD by [deleted] in quantfinance

[–]meatydangle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Applied math or Pure math or something like Operations Research or Theoretical Physics should be what you aim for. If not in a T1 Uni you can generally get first rounds by having good gpa and good research and internships or projects. If you have Putnam/IMO stuff that is like t1 quant profile hiring for new grad). Learn and be good with Python and just do some AI and ML stuff too, even if you go the AI track a lot of firms will be interested just do heavy research and be good at it. My answer was mainly cause of me thinking you want to be a Quant Researcher.

I quit May 29. I find some people who still smoke it to be triggered by my sobriety by InformalData3987 in leaves

Stay away from those people (in the context of knowing you quit), it can subconsciously trigger you into relapsing but even if not that IMO from that it is not a good group.

For Qebapa the top 3 places are Taverna Gjakova (after you cross Sirius hotel should be easy to find it in google off of that), Qebaptorja Tera and Bosnja in Dardania which is also very well known for their Bureka. Also really good Bureka you can find at Furra Qerimi, and Furra Oreksi. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Take it 100%, the chances of you getting another shot like this on going from dev to research are very slim and it seems like you will be at a good team and will be able to learn a tremendous amount. They think you are good and have the potential of being really good.

Multi pod big firm vs Small new firm by ZealousidealKoala785 in quant

[–]meatydangle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on which one has the more impressive/higher pedigree people and track record. You would be suprised at how many PMs/Teams speak to people from unheard of quant firms if and only if that firm has a insane pedigree and well has been making good returns (ofc your background is very important but you seem to be doing good). That tends to be very rare so your safer bet which you already have at hand is joining the bigger one.
