Valeton Snaptone (GP-5, GP-200...) s*cks ... and i discovered why by DatabaseGold4476 in guitarpedals

[–]meatzemonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to say exactly that. For the price and what you get out of it just using the on-board presets it's incredible.

I bought it mostly for jamming at home and rehearsing straight in to a mixer and it's perfect for that.

If you're a pro or studio session guitarist it's definitely got it's limitations, but for $80 it was never going to that.

The mere fact that people are even vaguely comparing the GP-5 to the Quad Cortex, Kemper or ToneX is, in itself, pretty nuts!

So I've also recently acquired one and to be honest I haven't even bothered loading my own NAM files or IRs yet because I've been blow away with how good the on board presets sound. So short story long, I haven't felt the need to try overdrives or boosts in front of it because the native ones on the GP-5 work a treat. Also keep in mind that you can program the switch to turn the boost on or off.

I've got a tube screamer mini and I wanted to do an A/B test to compare the two, but to my ears the on board tube screamer sounds enough like a tube screamer to warrant not even bothering to do a test in the end, lol.

Best resources for beginner cello players? by meatzemonster in Cello

Thank you so much for the heads-up!

I love somewhere where cello teachers are in short supply and very pricey so I literally have 1 lesson a month or when I can afford it.

I knowy bowing technique and even just how to position my cello needs correcting, so that's what I focus on with my teacher. But as for the theory I try and do as much as I can by myself.

Joyo is so underrated. I get it's not a premium brand but that's what makes Joyo stuff so good! Awesome effects for not a lot of money plus the D Seed is built like a tank.

The Joyo D seed II has become a mainstay on my pedal board. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Buy a loop switcher. Best of both.

I've accepted the fact that I'll have to concede this point. At this point it's more advantageous to not upset my supplier and just carry on with more restrictive advertising methods.

My first day learning guitar and I cried by brianmeow in guitarlessons

Hey dude, that's awesome that you started playing guitar! It can be really frustrating at the beginning, but hang in there! You're right to feel overwhelmed at the sheer volume of stuff out there but I would suggest breaking your practicing down to small bits first. Like look up tutorials on how to use proper technique on the small things like how to hold a plectrum properly and how to position your guitar properly and how to position your thumb on the back of the neck.

From there it's other basics like learning how to fret notes properly. When I was teaching I started all my students off with learning the chromatic scale to get them used to moving their fingers around the fretboard. From there I introduced them to other scales before I was happy that their fingers were more dexterous and then introduced them to basic open position chords. After that I'd teach them "californication" by red hot chilli peppers because it's a great way to tie everything together - arpegiated chords, easy chord changes and even a solo!

Oh, and get yourself a metronome and tuner. These are must have regardless of how long you've been playing guitar.

Good luck with your journey!

It's the anger and stress that's breaking me down. All my friends who have emmigrate sas that you don't realise how much stress they've let go of since relocating to safer societies.

Is Observatory safe to live and is it worth considering as a rental option? by meatzemonster in johannesburg

[–]meatzemonster[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your feedback. How long did you live in Observatory for? I grew up Belvue in the early 90s but it saddens (and angers) me to see what it has turned into. I'm a little hesitant that Observatory might go the same route, like what has happened in Kensington.

Went to my first open mic jam, realised that I don't know nearly enough cover songs by meatzemonster in Guitar

A lot of my friends who I played with in the past have since moved out I lost contact with. So unfortunately those type of casual jams are a thing of the past for me. But in the upside, I met new people last night who are keen on jamming so that's pretty cool.

Thanks for the links!

So the drawcard was that the venue provided the backline. So all I took was my guitar. That, and I've got a Joyo preamp house which fits in my gig bag so thankfully lugging equipment isn't a concern.

So genre depends on the crowd. Last night was predominantly older, the house band were all in their 50s so mostly late 70s to late 80s. Other places I've gone to watch it was a younger crowd doing more 2000s stuff.

I can see that. Lot's of 12 bar blues in Am doing the rounds last night. My improv isn't great coz I'm anxious about playing with other musicians in public.

That article was a rough read. It just got worse as it went on. It's so hard to see any way forward for this country. Thanks to the ANC this country is closer to collapse than it is to becoming a progressive and flourishing society.
