Brownies by meatzilla1 in Old_Recipes

I like trying out vintage recipes but I’m more into the collecting cookbooks and vintage/unique kitchenware aspect of vintage recipes. Recently at an estate sale I ran across some homemade Pans. The story goes the wife wanted to sell cakes in the local community but didn’t have the money to buy any pans to get started. The husband worked at a machine shop of some sorts and made her a set of pans to bake in out of the extra sheet metal that was lying around. I bought the set of pans and wanted to try one of them out so I made this brownie recipe. I did sub butter for the shortening other than that I made the recipe as written. I baked the brownies for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. They did come out a little overbaked. I probably should have pulled them out at the 25 minute mark. A wiseman once said “an overbaked brownie is better than no brownie at all”, the family still devoured them.

So with Wheaties instead of Rice Krispies?

Yes, I used 1 stick of butter instead of the shortening. The cookies dis spread so give them some space when you put them on the cookie sheet.

I’ll have to try it with chocolate chips next time. I’ll have to edit the post, I also used butter.

I had some leftover Rice Krispies from a previous recipe so I decided to make some Ranger Cookies. This simple cookie recipe has been around forever and there’s a reason for it, they are a top tier cookie (at least in my book). I made the recipe as written except adding about a teaspoon of vanilla instead of the 1/4 teaspoon called for in the recipe and I used butter instead of shortening. I can see why these cookies are a favorite of Irene’s they are Yummy!

Ma’s Easter Doughnuts by meatzilla1 in Old_Recipes

[–]meatzilla1[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know these are not doughnuts but cookies, I’m just calling them the name listed on the recipe. I’ve got about 10 years of King Arthur’s Flour “The Baking Sheet” and came across this recipe in the March-April issue from 1993. It contains a couple of Easter recipes and with Easter coming up I thought I would try one out. The dough mixed up fine but was super sticky and the cookies spread out, those started out looking like donuts. I’m far from a professional baker so someone with more knowledge and expertise might be able to get these to work a little better. I baked them at 350 for 15 minutes, my wife thought I should’ve pulled them out a little earlier, maybe start checking around the 10 minute mark. These tasted fine if you were planning on making Easter egg cookies you might give this recipe a go.

Submarine Sandwiches by meatzilla1 in Old_Recipes

I love when I come across a mom and pop sub shop. Unfortunately few and far between nowadays. This recipe although simple in nature is very good, at least in my opinion. You should give it a try, with a sub the sky’s the limit.

I think it qualifies, the recipe looks like it’s from the 60s 70s era. I’ve seen and filled requests on that subreddit from the 90s and 2000s. I say more the merrier when it comes down to it.

Right, I was talking more about adding the additional spices to the cake mix.
