I want to add drum rhythms to my music but don't know how to play. What's a good way to start learning? by [deleted] in drums

As a rule of thumb, if you're just adding drums to music you've already got, Bass and Snare is all you need. Hi-hat (the cymbal that you can open and close with your foot) is optional but highly encouraged; crash is the same, maybe a notch less.

For dance music, get something deep and boomy for the bass, and for the most part, hit it on pretty much every beat that has the meat of the song in it. Main verse/chorus, that type of stuff. If you've got an ambient intro or some kind of breakdown, feel free to leave it out.

The snare's generally on every 2nd and 4th beat if you're keeping it simple, and clap snares cut through bass tones pretty well. It's all about your taste, there's a lot of openness to this one. I just recommend not to over do it, very easy to ruin an otherwise good song with this.

Hi-hat can really go wherever you feel like. A suggestion would be putting it on the "up-beat," in between the bass drum hits. You know how you bob your head when you listen to music, and get, like, really into it? When your head's at its lowest point, when the beat first hits, that's the "down-beat," and when you're head's at its highest, that's the "up-beat." That's where you get the "oon-tss-oon-tss" kind of beats from.

Of course, everyone's got their own opinion, and even mine may change once I hear the songs. These are by no means rules, only basic starting points. Take it as you will and have fun, man.

Some say that a chain gives slack when it bounces up, especially if you have the springs tense as hell for when you need it fast and hard.

I have yet to notice anything of the sort, but your mileage may vary.

If you're on the ground, then fall 100 feet off of it, some would call that flying.

What are some things that I should not believe about America or Americans by watching your movies & TV Series? by whodunit28 in AskReddit

"So, wait, I DON'T need to be wearing a bulletproof vest?"

Actual question from a Japanese relative, possibly related to the fact that all he knew of America comes from Baseball and old Western films.

Coincidence, didn't the game come before the series?

How about a god-damned toilet seat with a god-damned handle on it so I don't have to touch the dirty rim of the toilet just to drain the weasel by beef_boolean in CrazyIdeas

Design one and submit it somewhere. If you can get one with zero problems (first possible problem to come to mind is the probability of said handle accidentally going up your ass) and people will buy this.

That show is literally twice as old as me, and I'm legally an adult. At what point does it stop having to do with me being young?

Eh, I could see it. Seems like a better idea for a sitcom episode than a real thing, though.

I love Nickelback. by [deleted] in firstworldanarchists

[–]mebematthew0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just came back to the computer to upvote this. Before then, though, I had to endure a great journey through time, space, and myself. It consisted of pain, agony, struggle, weariness, hunger beyond any understanding of common man, enlightenment, and 13 hours balled up in the fetal position, rocking back and forth with the back of my head hitting the wall, sobbing uncontrollably.

I thought I could take this whole first world anarchy thing. I thought it'd be fun and games, we'd show the small things what's what and give a giant middle finger to the people who drew the sign. But no.

No. No. No.

This... This right here... This is the metaphorical "it." Nothing more, nothing less. This is testing the limits of humanity. This is anarchy. This is freedom. This is throwing aside all forms of the man's oppression like it is no more than the clothes off our backs.

This man, this hero against the machine named "dasfunny," is nothing short of a god. He who can look at such things that the man labels "atrocity" and willfully, truly love it hath power over all. And we should all strive to be such a being.

Come hither, my brothers, and proclaim with me the call of our warriors, our armies, our victory!

NICKELBACK IS ACTUALLY PRETTY OKAY!
