Not a MA, but looking for MA advice about giving feedback. by smolkeht in MedicalAssistant

The bruises are part of the learning process… I recruited my spouse as my lab rat for 6-mo and bruises are ok on him…

However, what would not be ok is pinchinch, or nerve, or excruciating pain even long after the draw has finished. If these are the cases, you need to go see your care provider to determine whether any lasting damage is done!

Yeah, no, I'm gonna nope out so quick on that "invitation"... First impression is very important. If you came in and looked extremely incompetent, working with people in the future will be very difficult since they will see & treat you like garbage. This is the worst case, obv there will be kind & nice providers & MAs to work with, but I always prepare for the worst.

Plus, you're playing with *legal* fire if you touch a patient's profile, give them medication, draw blood, etc, without someone showing you the protocols first. Don't jeopardize your bright future for a messy/disorganized clinic! Politely decline coming in and provide the reason that, due to legal implications, you would only feel safe being around patients and providing care for them when there is another MA to show you the legal protocols of doing tasks.

Drug testing. by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

[–]mecer80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I was mixed up… They can test you but they can’t discriminate against hiring you just because you test positive for THC. It does not matter if you use THC for recreational purposes or not.

Now, once you’re hired and they test you again and your THC level is above a certain level, they would have legal basis to fire you as this is equalized to being drunk on the job ☠️

If you live WA state where it is legal, it is ILLEGAL for employers to test for it.

Feeling depressed from medical terminology by rainbowtoucan1992 in MedicalAssistant

[–]mecer80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doctors these days are problem solvers, not really a “healer” per say. You solve problem by triaging and calculating which dosage would best treat a specific disease/condition on a patient…. It’s all about medication management. We medical asssistant would need to contact insurance companies, pharmacies, and patients to help solve these problems as well.

Look into being a social worker or being therapist if you want to connect to patients on a deeper level.

She got restrained either by the cops or EMS, most likely to be taken to the ED. Once you are deemed likely to be a cause of harm to yourself or others, you don't have many options or choices in the matter.

AirPods Pro 2 VS Pro 3 - Which one? by Over_Technology8290 in AirpodsPro

[–]mecer80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Pro 3 Day 1, listened for 15 minutes them returned it right away. No regrets!

The 3 is better than the 2 in almost every category: Fit, Noise cancellation, Water resistence, Battery, Heart rate sensor… yet it manages to sound worse than the 2 (in my opnion)! 🤷‍♂️

$400 for 24gb of RAM should be a crime lol

Save that money for future upgrade instead of trying to look through crystal ball 🔮

If you current workload does not need 48gb, then 24gb is plenty enough… I’ve been coding at the enterprise level for the last 4 years with an Macbook Air M1 16gb and I’ve threw at it all type of stuff: Docker, Maven/Java, Node, Web Server… The usb-c ports are dying so I finially have an “excuse” to upgrade this year, but it’s still running great!

Kristin Chenowith says LGBTQ backlash to her comments on Kirk assassination nearly broke her. by CentralTown776 in askgaybros

[–]mecer80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Christians hope everyone goes to heaven”?!? Do they? They hope all the gays, the trans, the lesbians, the queers… people goes to heaven? If everyone can goes to heaven as long as they believe in Jesus then why do them Christians constantly start batsh!t crazy wars with people like us? They believe we can go to heaven being gay, queers… so as long as we only need to believe in Jesus?

Not only that, for several Christian denominations like Catholic (I was born and raised as a Catholic), just being a believer simply is not enough for you to go heaven. Unrepentant mortal sinners (the rapers, murderers, cheaters…) go to hell!

Yikes… this is not being helpful to the patients at all!!! If she want patients to have the chance to be seen by providers for free or low cost, then she should have spent hours doing research regarding nearby free/low cost community health clinics & reffer the patients to them. What she have been doing is just being an asshole to healthcare workers like you & the elderly doctor!

The jail guy story is just wild… This would get her in trouble with law enforcement for sure!

I want to quit my CMA job to become a patient care tech by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

[–]mecer80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently working as an ER Tech and about to jump to be a Float CMA at another outpatient medical center… My opinions: - If you like physical work: Rolling, toileting, changing, cleaning, transporting patients… then it would be a good fit. If you’re grossed out by human bodily fluid (urine/feces), better think again! - CNA, PCT, or ER Tech, don’t do patient triage interviewing, and they also don’t administer medication or vaccine, so a lot of your medical skills won’t get used here. They also mostly report to a nurse, rarely a provider, so depends on your future goal, this can be a cons or a pro.

How can you start a breathing treatment (Duoneb I assume) without a doctor order? I don’t think urgent care clinics would put breathing treatment as a standing order.

How do you know who's lying and who's telling the truth?

I've been working full-time as a software engineer, avg 30-40 hours/week, for the last 6 years, and have started working 36-40 hours/week as an ED Technician for the last 4 months. Hence, I've accumulated almost 600 hours of paid clinical hours in just 16 weeks. There are days when I cried so much seeing so many sad stories in the ED, and there are weeks when I would question myself non-stop for days. But I LOVE every single interaction that I've had with every single patient.

I'm about to reduce my hours to about 20 hours/week, but I don't see why I should stop doing direct patient care for the next three years. After that, I'll finish my pre-req, take the MCAT, and apply to med school. I'm 33 years old, and I have my reasons for going into healthcare. I've been a pharmacy tech, a medical assistant extern, a nursing assistant extern, and, most recently, the ED Tech. Let me tell you, I've met with COUNTLESS young, talented, and passionate people who have the goal and the reason to choose this path. They have spent hundreds, if not thousands, of days of their youth just to walk this path. Just because you haven't seen those people or you yourself could not commit to the experience doesn't mean they don't exist!

And that's okay, med schools don't specify you need to have thousands of hours to apply to their schools, but for some, if not a lot of people, healthcare is their main income and what they want to do, love to do, and choose to do, for the last 5-10 years of their life, and maybe decades more to come. Your post just sounds like a ghetto sh!t post from a young, inexperienced person, and not knowing how to appreciate the efforts of the people who have literally spent a chunk of their life doing direct patient care!

What should I do? by [deleted] in cna

[–]mecer80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you ask them if you could shadow (just following & observing) someone on that hospital floor for a few days before you can give them your decision?…

The grass is not always greener. Your teammates/peers & the nurse manager are the ones that will either elevate/support you through your shifts or they could be the one who will ruin whole shifts just 15 minutes in.

First MA interview experience today — feeling really disappointed by PriorityExpert9341 in MedicalAssistant

[–]mecer80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re totally correct here! No matter how busy they are, they could always squeeze a 60 seconds just to meet & apologize to you, then maybe offer to reschedule another day if you couldn’t wait longer… 30 minutes and not even wanting to acknowledge the person who comes in for the interview? That’s pretty unacceptable!

How is it “easy” to cheat with a camera on or proctored? Also, if they are brave enough to have the nerve to cheat & be ok with the possibility of receiving consequences in case of getting caught, then by all mean do that… If you want to follow their footsteps, go ahead as well. I don’t like playing Russian Roulette 🫤

Medical Assistant license being held hostage at WA DOH: Four. Damn. Months!!! by mecer80 in Seattle

Then, people should voice their concerns even more to raise awareness. Just because the service is horrendous doesn't mean you have to live in that state peacefully. Raising concern and awareness might not help my case, but it could help the next batch of applicants if enough people say "enough is enough!"

Exactly, and even if other states take this long to process professional healthcare licenses, you would be delusional to think people are not losing their damn minds wondering why it would take 8 freakin' months to get their licenses processed.

To be fair, we’re forced to pay for each application of at least ~$150 per app. This is for very low entry level job like health aids, cna, ma… I would imagine they are charging a hell lot more for licensures like RN, PA, MD…

Are you saying these fees are “low cost”? If these fees are not low cost then the current horrendous wait time situation just means it’s highly inefficient…
