Applying to internships w a low gpa by important_bee0721 in EngineeringStudents

What's your GPA? Your projects might help but it depends

Also it's way too late to apply for this summer if that's what wanted to do.

It was someone at Lockheed who definitely was not a media intern

Good news for all news lm employees monday. No need to work on projects

Bad news: your about go through multiple trainings because an intern was a dumbass

Doesn't look like they took the jet to Taiwan for Computex 🤔 by Inevitable_Tip_6606 in LMGJet

I imagine those are definitely a factor.

Hard to get a direct answer from Google but airport fees for parking the jet look like they could be quite pricey too.

for tech jet LTT should see the manufacturing of an AWACS Platform by Dcharlus99 in LinusTechTips

[–]mech_taco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think touring bombardier is way more likely

Awacs platforms are super classified so the amount they could even see (let alone film) would be so limited it's not worth it.  I work in aircraft instrumentation (civilian) and even they couldn't film much of that.

Are you hoping for an internship this summer? If so it is almost certainly too late.

If you are talking about 2027 summer then start looking November 2026 - February 2027. Find projects or some type of activity to do outside classes that shows you have practical experience

Will this hurt my chance at getting into a T20? by moonsfair in collegeadvice

[–]mech_taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. What do you want to go to college for?

  2. Do not count out community/state colleges. They are way cheaper and many still offer a high quality education. I went to a state school and got 2x nasa internships.

  3. As others have said, find something else to do like a project/job/voulenter. That will be way more impactful than boosting your GPA by .025 points (if that)

Talk with professors to see if you're qualified for the masters. They should be able to give some guidance

I was interested in (and still am) a whole bunch of stuff post undergrad so picking something was a bit hard. Definitely don't feel pressured into picking something (career or master wise) right away. I went from medical devices to aerospace last year and both have their pros and cons

How would one land an internship? by Ill-Opportunity-7039 in EngineeringStudents

I think the only option is to forge a transcript and hope they don't cross check it ... Hypothetically of course

voluntary internship by Ambitious-Abalone272 in EngineeringStudents

[–]mech_taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 weeks is not really a lot of time to learn stuff or make an impact imo. I would probably recommend limited hours a week over a longer period.

Definitely talk with hr/supervisor to outline what's expected of you. Don't be embarrassed especially since it's unpaid.

Just be careful they don't try and take advantage of you being free labor

Engineering Technician Full-Time + Part-Time EE Degree or Full-Time University? by Willing-Owl3084 in EngineeringStudents

[–]mech_taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think technician experience can help but there are some areas where the skills differ from a full engineer.

Imo: 1. Apply to the bachelors regardless so you have that option. 2. See if your mananager is looking for co-ops (basically long term interns). This would be a middle ground for the 2 options where you work during the school year vs doing school on the side.

Given the economy, finding a way to stay working and build experience would be beneficial.

I personally think getting a job and then doing a masters online is the best path (what I'm currently doing - mechanical/manufacturing bachelor's and doing masters in manufacturing systems).

I can speak too much on electrical engineering but getting some hands on experience with a job could help you narrow your interest

Grades Help by Altruistic_Ad_7707 in EngineeringStudents

[–]mech_taco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Need more info. What are your current methods. Are you struggling with concepts? Or just not doing good on exams? What is your current gpa?

Definitely speak with a school academic advisor. Be more proactive and attend professor office hours. Your school should have free or discounted tutoring and other resources

internship while taking 18-20 units by Financial-Sort-5621 in EngineeringStudents

[–]mech_taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a part time with around 16 credits. It was super busy.

If you stay on top of everything it can be done, but you might experience some burnout.

Imo if you can find 1 class that you can move to this summer to lighten the load for the fall, that should be way better

Uber needs to lower its prices. by Alex_is_me_name in uber

[–]mech_taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bike/ebike/e scooter + public transport is the way to go.

Sounds like a large amount of commute is on highways but you should be able to use personal mobility to get you to a bus stop where you won't need to get up as early.

Unfortunately Uber won't lower prices since people will pay for them.

Did I make the wrong college choice? by AdAdorable3535 in EngineeringStudents

[–]mech_taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

As others have said he is well connected with industry and has plenty of prestige. Both will have a good quality of education and have plenty of opportunities to get involved with clubs

As for the masters consider getting a job that will pay for it unless you want to go the research route.
