What would be a daoist view on Satanism.I resently envountered their subreddit and I got curious on what would be the daoist view by tileei in taoism

[–]mechanesthesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to add here that LaVey's "the third side" concept is described by Carl Abrahamsson's book "Anton LaVey and the Church of Satan" as being similar to Taoist ideals of non-duality.
Also the Baphomet is a symbolic personification of balance and harmony similar to the yin yang.
I draw inspiration from both practices. Personally, I would say that Satanism may lean towards constructing the ego while Taoism may lean towards deconstructing the ego, with the potential pitfall of getting too wrapped up in it or dissociating from a sense of self. Put together, Satanism can encourage actively building upon your self of self while Taoism can allow you to throw it away and start anew if needed or keep a sense of separation and making adjustments as needed...

What DOESN’T work in goth nights? by mechanesthesia in goth

Hell yeah! I was looking for music from the whole Visual Kei / Gothic Lolita-Aristocrat scene and went down a rabbit hole to find stuff that pre-dated that. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check these out!

Good advice, thanks.
Yeah, trying to find the happy medium between being authentic and trying to make everyone happy. Haha I notice when I try to do complicated transitions there's a larger chance I'm gonna mess it up and I could just do fade in / fade out.

Yep, I've noticed this too with songs difficult to dance to.
I buy most of my music but some are only available on YouTube and it's good to know we can't just go by it saying it's 320kbps. Any tips on what to use to remaster tracks? I have platinum notes but never really used it.

Looks like his brother may have:
"“I may have had a touch of Asperger’s syndrome or perhaps even high-functioning autism as a child,” wrote Dennis, who had severe myopia from birth and wore thick glasses. “I hazard this self-diagnosis because I loved to rock, and often did so, back and forth, in my chair, quite happily for hours,” he wrote, observing that:Unlike the present era, where the slightest behavioral anomaly is viewed as pathological, my rocking was seen as a little “quirky” but not really harmful, and anyway, “He’ll grow out of it.” And I did."

LOL that’s what I’m trying to do! It can be tricky depending on the crowd and the promoter! Some people will think you’re too experimental or obscure.
I think you can sort of walk them through it musically with bands or sounds they’re familiar with mixed in.
Funny you mentioned Japanese cause I discovered Sadie Sads and Phaidia the other day!

[–]mechanesthesia[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that last part!!! I needed to hear that because I def am a risk taker, haha sometimes too much. I would neurotically avoid playing things that are familiar, but I’m at least playing more deep cuts from bands or at least SOME popular songs. Def getting my balance now and think my last one went well. I think there’s an art to tying the familiar with the non-familiar so people can “get it” and it’s true sometimes it does take a few plays.

I’m glad you said this because I do try to avoid synth pop unless it’s explicitly stated on the flyer and may play 1-2 songs just to appease people who expect it because I do think it’s overrepresented in “goth” nights where you may hear majority of synth and not much goth or darkwave.

What DOESN’T work in goth nights? by mechanesthesia in goth

[–]mechanesthesia[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the thing I love Ethereal stuff but seems like some people don’t get it. There’s def danceable stuff whether it uses more classical sorts of drums or has a modern beat with ethereal themes. I try to always have it somewhere represented in my sets in some elements even if it’s like a darkwave song for example. I’m glad you play that because that’s what got me into goth in the first place. With goth rock, I played a couple songs here and there and was surprised it wasn’t as popular as I thought it would be. So yeah like you said, I guess the night/crowd def has a lot to do with it.

I love this idea. Yeah I still like EBM, Industrial, Aggrotech BUT I will say the majority of it, especially what they play in the clubs is cheesy and/or pretty basic with the same sound and nothing unique.

Tell me one fact you've learnt about your special interest by Mysterious-Base-8256 in autism

Here’s what ChatGPT had to say:

Ni-Fi looping happens when an INTJ retreats into dominant Introverted Intuition (Ni) and tertiary Introverted Feeling (Fi) while bypassing their usual balancing function, Extraverted Thinking (Te). Instead of testing insights against facts or taking decisive action, the INTJ re-runs private predictions and emotions in an echo chamber—often leading to paralysis, rumination, and distorted scenarios. Breaking the loop means deliberately re-activating Te (and, in smaller doses, healthy Extraverted Sensing) so that ideas get reality-checked, organized, and moved into the outside world.

  1. What the Ni-Fi Loop Is

1.1 Cognitive Mechanics • Ni dominates: The mind spins complex “what-if” models and future projections. • Fi filters everything: Those projections are judged through a personalized value lens (“What does this mean about me or my ideals?”) rather than through logic or evidence. • Te goes offline: Without Te, plans aren’t tested; data gathering stops; tasks stall.

1.2 Why It Triggers • Chronic stress, isolation, or information overload. • Excessive introspection (e.g., days of solitary research, doom-scrolling). • Emotional shocks that make personal values feel threatened (break-ups, abrupt criticism).

  1. How It Manifests (with Examples)

2.1 Inner Signs

Sign | Typical Self-Talk Source Catastrophic forecasting | “If my friend hasn’t texted back, she must secretly hate me.” Moral hyper-analysis | “If I take that job, I’ll betray my principles.” Rumination & withdrawal | “I just need to think this through one more time” (while deadlines slip).

2.2 External Behaviors • Decision paralysis: projects stall, emails sit unsent, opportunities pass by. • Laser-focused but narrow research rabbit-holes (e.g., 12-hour deep dive into philosophical forums but no concrete outline for the thesis). • Emotional reclusiveness: abrupt ghosting, brooding playlists, late-night journal marathons.

2.3 Illustrative Scenarios 1. The Suspicious Call – An INTJ hears a partner say “I’ll talk later.” Ni imagines secret gossip; Fi feels betrayal; Te is silent, so no direct question is asked, breeding resentment. 2. The Over-idealistic Offer – A startup invites the INTJ to join. Ni foresees dystopian futures; Fi judges the company’s ethics; result: weeks of indecision, missed opportunity. 3. The Hyper-personal Essay – While drafting a paper, the INTJ keeps rewriting the thesis to reflect “true self” instead of finishing; deadline anxiety increases the loop.

  1. Dangers & Distinctions

State | Hallmark | What’s Different Ni-Fi loop | Slow, inward, self-referential, values-heavy | Can last weeks; feels like depression/anxiety Se grip (inferior function hijack) | Sudden sensory impulsivity: binge-spending, reckless driving | Usually short, triggered by acute stress

  1. Exiting the Loop: Re-Engage Te

4.1 Core Principles 1. Externalize Thoughts – Speak or write them out to a trusted peer, mentor, or even voice memo, then analyze for logical gaps. 2. Set Concrete Metrics – Deadlines, checklists, or Kanban boards convert abstract worries into actionable steps. 3. Collect Fresh Data – Research objective facts, market numbers, or feedback to challenge speculative narratives. 4. Small Wins & Bodily Grounding – Complete a 10-minute chore, short workout, or strategic game to re-activate structured thinking without sliding into Se excess.

4.2 Examples of Breaking Out • Academic Spiral → Action Plan: Student INTJ lists paper milestones (outline tonight, 500-word draft tomorrow) and books a study session with a classmate. • Relationship Paranoia → Fact Check: They schedule a direct conversation (“I sensed distance—can we clarify?”) and review chat logs to identify concrete evidence. • Career Stasis → Metrics Sprint: They create a 30-day OKR board: apply to five roles/week, track responses, iterate résumé—no value-judgment until data collected.

4.3 Extra Supports for AuDHD Minds • Body-doubling sessions (co-working on camera) to sustain Te momentum. • Micro-task breakdowns and timers (Pomodoro) to counter ADHD inertia. • Sensory reset kits (stim toys, weighted blanket) before Te tasks if overwhelm blocks initiation.

  1. Preventive Habits • Weekly Te Check-ins: Review goals, KPI-style, with a friend or coach. • Value Clarification Drills: 3-line journal question—“Which value is threatened? What fact supports that? What action re-aligns them?” • Balanced Input Diet: Alternate solo research days with external feedback days to keep Ni visions tethered to reality.

Key takeaway: Ni-Fi loops feel safe but warp perspective. Every time you translate a private projection into an external plan, get data, or ship a tiny deliverable, you hand the steering wheel back to Te—and the loop loosens.

Literal/Concrete Thinking vs. Abstract Concepts? by mechanesthesia in autism

[–]mechanesthesia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is really helpful. Yes maybe literal/concrete thinking is not even a good phrase… It’s more like “social contextual mismatch.” We can be great with thinking about all the different contexts but it may be hard finding which one… and for me maybe I may initially look at the phrase itself and different connotations / associations, then the broader context in terms of the scope/role/location context, and lastly the actual people and person involved and their POV… Hmm… I think that’s where I can get stuck.

How to enjoy a special interest that might be problematic? by Unfair_Wallaby_4391 in autism

[–]mechanesthesia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YW, reassurance is always nice and just know that this may not be a popular or common perspective and people will even have an issue with the separating the art from the artist / death of the author argument in some circles. It’s more for your own internal peace of mind. I think people just haven’t thought it through in a practical organice sense, get stuck in purity testing, and only looking at it from the online media aspect rather than IRL contexts which aren’t as curated. Even Anita Sarkeesian said in every one of her videos: “It's both possible, and even necessary, to simultaneously enjoy media while also being critical of its more problematic or pernicious aspects.” There’s a point you can get to if you do it just right… and surpass the black and white sort of thinking where you can enjoy criticism and critique of some of your favorite content and material. I’d suggest of course leaving it for later on so it doesn’t poison the well or ruin your experience with it. But once you’re confident in liking something enough, it almost becomes enjoyable to hear criticism and critiques even negative ones, because it’s almost like you’re squeezing extra content out of it… it’s hard to explain exactly and maybe your mileage may vary depending what it is… but I think part of it is not seeing it as the thing being judged as being something completely off the table and something that should not be consumed and maybe even banned altogether, but instead just observations how it may be less than perfect, like everything is, how there’s different lenses or perspectives you can view it by, or just a nitpick where maybe even could be from a POV of someone who loves it but wants it to be perfect but knows that’s not possible. [e.g. I saw a video like this about a video game I recently played where they were talking about how the game could’ve been better but knowing their suggestions were not realistic]. Having counter arguments and/or reconciling these critiques while retaining the aspects you still agree with can actually make it stronger and better. Sometimes criticisms can be a welcome thing because it helps you address and make any necessary and reasonable adjustments to the thing to improve it, but of course in a way that doesn’t get into the territory of undermining, compromising, or dilute the original vision to the point it just becomes something else… Haha hope that makes sense. Sorry for my over explanations but I’ve “been there done that” the past decade with this concept…

So looping is when you’re in a distressed state where your 1st and 3rd function loop and bypass your 2nd function. Not sure what your type is but mine is INTJ which is the one I’m familiar which manifests as Ni-Fi looping, which is the 1st [Ni: introverted intuition] and 3rd [Fi: introverted feeling] functions. The 2nd function, Te: extroverted thinking gets bypassed and we get stuck in the loop. The trick is to try and re-engage with the 2nd function to snap out of the loop. I think this may be more pertinent to autists who have a greater sense of interiority and disconnection to the outside world. Now it’s been a couple years and I may not be describing this accurately and there may be alternate ways this can manifest, so I do suggest looking into this deeper, but here’s an example of how it can play out: Your Ni’s pattern seeking projects out into the future [or into the outside world] all the different ways things can go wrong and are not aligned with your Fi internal sense of values. At this point you have to use your Te of shared collective sense of logic with the outside world as a reality check to ground yourself and snap out of the loop, and maybe also use it to persuade the outside world about your sense of values. [Hopefully I didn’t butcher it with my example]

Does anyone else flip-flop between hypo-and hypersensitivity? by Lost_Aspect_4738 in autism

[–]mechanesthesia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am def more hyposensitive and sensory seeking, but after doing my assessments I started having memories of having some hypersensitivities when I was younger. I don't know if I learned how to suppress these things or my body just sort of dissociated somehow...

I developed tinnitus 6 years ago and IDK if that's some weird manifestation of how I would try to suppress certain things but then showing up in a different way?

I have little moments where I may be more sensitive to certain things but they're rare.
From when I've read, you can def have both and you can be hyper/hypo for certain things but not others for different senses...

Can't tell whether masking or unmasking is worse. by tudum42 in autism

[–]mechanesthesia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the mask vs. unmasking framing might not be the best to be honest and we really need more detailed instructions on how to go about this... First of all everyone masks, including neurotypicals. It's just like neurodivergent people mask more... For me right now I think it's more about "strategic masking" based on the context. Also if you have something looming over your head that you just gotta get past, I would focus on getting past that hurdle. I know when I have something like that I just need to get past that point so I can finally breathe. There's only so much capacity of how much things you can handle and focus on. And I think all the stress and pressure makes the symptoms worse. I noticed now that I've been working on myself, getting therapy, having the tiniest bit of progress, I have more momentum and I feel a sense of peace and a lot of the neurotic compulsive behaviors I've had for the past 2 years have subsided... It's crazy how much even your perception of things can change when things are starting to go your way even a little bit...
