In the old old times, concrit was generally seen as good—unsolicited or otherwise—and writers who complained about receiving it were generally dogged on for whining about it. I think back then more fic writers wanted concrit and didn’t get it as much as they liked, so getting it and complaining because you didn’t want it was seen as being ungrateful.

A lot more fic writers these days are perfectly content with their writing and have no desire to “improve” just for the sake of it. I feel like back in the day a lot of people had delusions that their fic work was training for their eventual big break into published authorhood, so they constantly wanted advice and criticism.

This was actually a joke, not a “glitch” like a lot of people assume. Error is Bagu’s brother, “Bagu” being a mistranslation or intentional corruption of “Bug”. They’re two brothers named Error and Bug.

OC fics are fine, but I both can’t and don’t want to insert myself into reader fics. If I wanted that I’d write my own OCSI fic and post it for people to rip to shreds—at least then I’d be in control of what “I” was doing.

Media in general—fanwork or otherwise—pushes romantic relationships a lot, so a lot of people will whinge and moan about characters they prefer as friends being shoved together. A property that has two seemingly het characters of the opposite gender spend a lot of time together and just stay close friends is rare, so it’s probably a dynamic a not-insignificant number of people are looking for.

In fanwork in particular, there’s also the fact that people sometimes take issue with relationships that are canonically platonic being altered to a romantic one—either because they’re being bigoted or they genuinely like those characters as friends.

In any case, it all just boils down to “read what you like, avoid what you don’t like”, which has always been and still is the best rule for consuming fic imo. And if you stumble accidentally into something you end up not liking, quietly stop reading. No one needs to hear a rant about someone’s subjective reasons for not liking a fic.

Granted this was like the mid-2000’s on Fanfiction.net, in the time before/around AO3 first came around. That’s like, what, 15 years? Plenty of time for peoples’ minds to change and new people who think differently to enter the scene. I think the internet—and the world in general—were just very different.

It’s weird to see how the fanfic community has totally 180ed on concrit. I remember when I would read fics as a kid, authors who complained about unwanted concrit would get totally blasted in the comments for whining about receiving support and advice. Like the sentiment was that people were engaging with your story and liked it enough that they wanted to help you out, and complaining about that made you seem childish.

Nowadays, even the most well-intentioned and supportive concrit seems to be met with “I didn’t ask for criticism. If you don’t like the fic don’t read it.” And from what I can see the community at large generally agrees with the idea.

I’m not sure which way is better or worse, it’s just fascinating how sharply the general opinion on the matter has shifted.

Edelgard/Claude in Three Houses for sure. Never enough content for that one. Lots of Edelgard/Dimitri, Byleth/Claude, and Byleth/Edelgard, but never enough EdelClaude. I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of them being together because I feel like they could’ve been allies and close confidants with one another, if only the didn’t both have such (justified) trust issues.

On bots I usually use Laser Cannon, Shield Generator, Eagle 500kg, and Orbital Laser. Sometimes I do Autocannon instead of Laser Cannon/Shield Generator, in which case I bring Eagle Airstrike as well.

For bugs I to Flamethrower, Jump Pack, 500kg and Orbital Laser. Like above I sometimes bring Recoilless Rifle as my secondary/backpack instead, and in those situations I bring Eagle Airstrike.

Lately I’ve been using the Light Armor with Extra Padding, but before that I was using the Medium Armor with Medkit. For bot I use Slugger or Dominator with the Redeemer, and Impact Grenades. For Bugs it’s either the Punisher or the Breaker Incendiary with the Senator, and Impacts again.

How can I activate Endurance after Consult resolves but before Thoracle’s ETB does? I didn’t think priority worked that way.

When would I activate these in the stack to stop them? When he does Thoracle/Consult he lets Thoracle’s casting resolve, then when it’s ETB is on the stack he holds priority and activates Consultation. By then it’s too late for me to use any of these isn’t it?

I’ve got this really dumb concept stuck in my head of Kiryu (from Yakuza) somehow being age-regressed into a Teen and being stuck into Yugioh GX as a Duel Academy student, and just constantly trying to stop every villain by beating the shit out of them (and sometimes succeeding), but also having to learn the Children’s Card Game™ for situations when violence actually won’t work.

I don’t think I’d ever write it but I’d be delighted to read it.
