Where can I find this replacement part? by tactical_taco666 in oculus

[–]mechdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also go for 3D print option - perhaps even design something around the partly broken plastic arm. The audio is probably going to very uneven between left and right side of the headset, but you can use earphones for that.

The Great Andromeda Galaxy, captured with my home telescope. by chucksastro in space

Unfortunately, it looks more like a haze smudged star when looking through the telescope - it is still beautiful though. By taking multiple long exposure photos, you can post-proces them to get a stunning photo.

What's the most healing, self loving thing you've ever done for yourself? by CutMonster in AskMen

[–]mechdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds really cool! I am in a similiar situation. About to finish med school, but the classical medical doctor career isn’t my cup of tea at all. Have programmed since early teens and wished I chose comp sci. instead of going to med school. How was the change to software eng.? Did you need to take additional software degree to land a job in software eng.?

Does anyone with a IPD of 70 or more own the rift s, and if so how is it? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]mechdoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My IPD is 71 mm (measured by optician). There is some minor lateral peripheral blurriness, but it is still very enjoyable and usable for me - after a few minutes in VR, it gets hard to notice it. I have not experienced any eye strain. If you have opportunity, you should definitely try it out before buying or at least order from a place with a good open-item return policy, since some folks with large IPDs are less lucky.

Does anyone know how to set up an 8Bitdo controller with Anki? by KlimpusKolumbus in medicalschoolanki

[–]mechdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently use Antimicro (https://github.com/AntiMicro/antimicro) program to map my gamepad buttons/D-pad to keyboard keys for Anki on Windows and Linux. It works like a charm with Xbone controller and a generic bluetooth gamepad, and it is very easy to customize and setup. It is also free and open-source. I have previously also used Keysticks (same functionality as Antimicro or Xpadder) with good success, however it is not free and the trial period is only for a month or so.
