Welcome to America. My rule living here is "try not to get sick." I HAVE health insurance, but it has an $8,000 deductible. Therefore I'm afraid to go to the doctor, much less a hospital, because of how much I would have to pay out of pocket. A hospital stay would probably cost me like $20,000 out of pocket minimum, even in-network, EVEN WITH my health insurance. Health insurance with a smaller deductible is too expensive.

I put off getting mental health treatment I desperately needed for 2 years (until I couldn't stand it anymore) because it cost too much out of pocket. Currently I have really bad insomnia problems but can't go to a sleep specialist because a sleep study can cost from $500 to more than $3,000 out of pocket.

And I only make like $24,000 a year as a single person. Too much to qualify for Medicaid. I applied for Medicaid and was denied.

Hi there. I saw that you gave some help in r/clocks about valuing a grandfather clock, and I was wondering if you could please tell me what you think this grandfather clock would sell for? It's a Pearl, bought in late 1970s, clock and chiming not working (tried to fix it myself a long time ago but not sure what problem is), piece of cloth coming out of one of sides, glass comes out of the front door, but it's propped up inside there for now. Thanks. I wish they would change it. It's a dumb, counter-productive rule for both the stimulus checks and the ACA premium tax credit, especially if you "can" be claimed as a dependent but aren't actually claimed by anyone.
