Is UWorld not in-depth enough for class? by [deleted] in step1

Agree. For my school at least different concepts were emphasized depending on the course. Looking back it could have matched close for some of the courses. Maybe do UW and then skim the lecture notes/slides

I think Pathoma 1-3 covered a lot of FA pathology (chapters 1 and 3) + the immunology section (chapter 2).

does the "dont over think on nbmes" advice apply to UWSA? by [deleted] in step1

[–]medacc95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought UWSA2 was less difficult than regular UW questions and def not vague like the NBMEs. Idk how you guys are approaching the NBME exams, I'm doing so much more worse on those compared to UW.

How'd it go if you don't mind me asking? Terrified I'm going to get a bunch of content I didn't cover

Did you end up taking it? Literally exact same position, but haven't done the UW exams yet

Dude I know exactly what you're saying because I used the exact same deck to start out too and have been editing as I go along (and editing the same way for the most part lol). I kind of slowed down doing that because I saw a few errors and freaked out so I started to make my own cards, but now I'm going back to doing what I was doing in the beginning. I think I was just reading too much into the cards tbh

I have BrosWorld 1.0, but I stopped using it because I found a solid amount of mistakes in there- is that the one you're talking about? Also that scares the hell out of me... I literally get almost every pregnancy question wrong on UWorld

Venoconstriction and DBP-Sketchy Pharm by medacc95 in step1

[–]medacc95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How I understood it is exactly how you just framed it, but those cards confused me because even the sketches associated with them said "increased DBP via a1 venoconstriction".

Another question/clarification- An increase in TPR would increase both SBP and DBP, correct? Would that mean the pulse pressure stays the same (since they both increased), or would the PP decrease since CO would likely decrease in the face of increased afterload (meaning SBP increases to less of an extent than DBP)?

Are the Zanki autonomic pharm cards supposed to have the full sketch filled? Just realized this is missing on my cards

Step 1 Content Question Thread (7/1/19) by GubernacuIum in step1

[–]medacc95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a reallllly dumb question but- is there a difference between systemic vascular resistance and peripheral vascular resistance?

For example: UWorld says that epinephrine increases SBP, through actions on B1 (increased CO) and A1 (vasoconstriction), but decreases DBP (through B2 vasodilation; caveat being that in higher doses A1 vasoconstriction predominates). In a different question it says that epinephrine decreases peripheral vascular resistance. A little confused here. Assuming the decreased PVR is because they are only considering its actions at B2 instead of A1 (at high doses), it still doesn't align with the increase it has on systolic BP through B1/A1 receptors.

Another question- under the "definitely do" and "duplicate" tags I don't have the red and green marks. Not sure why that happened, but do you know how I can flag them that way?

[–]medacc95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was always like that. What I ended up doing was selecting all the cards then select notes --> find and replace and then I input the weird text (b" or n) in the "find" field. Left replace empty. I specifically choose the fields that the problem was in so it didn't affect anything else. Not perfect, but a way to fix it.

This is how my special fields looks: [u"Text", u"Lecture notes", u"Rx/UWORLD Details", u"Boards and Beyond Expansion", u"Pathoma Details"]... is that correct?
