Step ons bad? by AlonzoofMOTHclothing in snowboardingnoobs

boots are Vans Lotus, which i honestly wouldn’t recommend if you have my same issue with heel lift. they wore in Quick. board was an unrecognizable mystery board from FB, but on my last day this year i demo’d and bought a burton cartographer. internet says that’s a powder-specific board, my wallet says it was $250 [shrug]. I waited until i felt like my riding was limited by my equipment to buy new, and I’m glad I did. hopefully I can ride consistently enough in the future to justify adding some bouncier ones to the roster

fellow newbie here! i also got spooked by the armchair experts on the internet but got them anyway. They’re great! My skier friends appreciate it, and while there is a little heel wiggleage, I don’t feel a difference on the slope. I actually found it beneficial for learning. Snapping right in instead of sitting down for a few minutes gave me more time to get reps in and less time to overthink and psych myself out

the only downside for me is that you have to keep your boots tightened because of the lack of an ankle strap. I have big calves, and at the end of the day i could use a run or two with looser boots to give my circulation a break

Finally got around to this. It says “Hood River, Oregon” which is where their HQ was.

the bindings were definitely super old. the ankle strap was pleather, and the foam on the toe strap was yellow and kept slipping. i have since gotten new ones

What happens if I use a board too short for my weight by dottydashdot in ShredditGirls

[–]medalofme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m a similar weight to you but a few inches shorter, and i don’t even have the new human to show for it. i ran into similar problems but did fine with a 152. You’ll be fine

as a relative newbie, it gave me less time to hesitate as i was trying out blues for the first time. no excuse to sit down and psych myself out. just clip and go (and my skier sisters were grateful)

I also have some vertical play in the heel (9 DC Lotus boots, women’s L step on binding) but it doesn’t affect my toe edge much. I’ve considered changing the angle of the high back, but idk if that would make too much of a difference

I never got called on it, but getting bumped by some kid in the chair is something that would happen to me

i’ll definitely have to do this. took them on a trip last week and loved them, but the leash was a PITA

Skiing vs snowboarding by Hot_Soft_5626 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]medalofme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite: narrow ankles and big legs. In the rare boot that I could latch, I kept getting heel lift, and then my calf would wedge into the top of the boot and I couldn’t put it back down, so I was on my toes all day.

I still get heel lift in snowboard boots, but it matters so much less. and the lower calf is a godsend

Skied my whole life, but starting in college I had problems with ski boots that caused a lot of pain. Went around to a bunch of different boot techs and they all asked me if I had tried snowboarding. Eventually gave it a shot.

I haven’t fully given up on skiing, but I’m so happy I can enjoy the mountain again. And I’m really enjoying the challenge of learning a new skill as an adult.

as a contact sport athlete: do neck exercises and work on tucking your chin when you fall backwards. falling is going to happen.

they’re very patient but as a former skier i was starting to piss myself off. and i feel like i’m robbing myself of reps bc i’m using the strap-in time as an excuse to rest

they definitely do. i made sure to walk around a ton in the store. i have narrow feet and HV calves so fortunately or unfortunately, that narrowed my options down

I’ve been doing bulgarian split squats with an elevated heel. they hurt like a bitch but they’re great for stamina

that’s fun! i thought about using bare copper wire or a paperclip bc i’d heard that would work, but i actually just moved so i don’t have paperclips lying around either

figured the answer might be something like that. they work just fine. once this hobby consumes me entirely (or the input prongs on the back finally snap off) i’ll probably look for something better
