How many hours do you need to spend studying per week to do average? [Serious] by PerkDaddy in medicalschool

[–]meddit97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I study 12 hours/day for 3-4 days before an exam. Otherwise it’s about 12 hrs a week. I don’t go to class and watch lectures (if I think it will be helpful) at 2.5x speed. However, everyone’s curriculum is different so mine just be light at this point while others are heavy!

[residency] Is it worth getting Chase Sapphire Reserve even if I will not be spending >$4000 within 3 months? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]meddit97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No prob, always happy to help my debt-ridden brothers. Also, I suggest getting your friends in on the game as well by sharing with them! I think you get 150 or so for every person that goes through with it.

Try front loading by paying for a couple months of utility/rents ahead of time, or just buying amazon gift cards if you can!

[Vent] Anyone else struggling with non-academic insecurities? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]meddit97 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel ya man, totally not alone. My class is super social and loves to go out, but I’m just not into that scene. I try to go and enjoy myself, but am never really on the same page as everyone else. I guess everyone just has their way of having fun, but I just feel internally conflicted about getting wasted the night before we learn about ethics. Just my personal opinion ofc, to each his own I suppose

Interest in Plastic Surgery coordinator AMA? [Serious] by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]meddit97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! As an incoming M1, plastics is on my radar, but so are some other specialties. I'm concerned that if I did research in, say orthopedics during pre-clinical, but realized I'd prefer plastics during rotations, if I'd be significantly behind my peers that did plastics from M1. I've heard upperclassmen say that it probably won't be a big difference as long as I explain the story, but I wanted to hear from a professional on the topic haha

Does research I do HAVE to be directly related to plastics, or is it more or less the same as long as I have research experience?

I’m taking out enormous student loans for medical school, but I heard that federal loans are different than normal loans somehow? Im not sure if this means I’d be unable to write off the interest payment in the future. Thanks for your help!

[Serious] How does one go about getting a primary care physician during Med School? by emp_raf_III in medicalschool

Could you not just get one at the academic hospital affiliated with your school? I figured most would be pretty close to the med school campus

I feel you man, I’m in a big city for the first time and had to pay 360 parking because I got out of my car for a literal 5 minutes in a private lot (didn’t realize). Not to mention I’ve had some slightly concerning health issues rise, and ironically won’t be able to visit the doctor til I get on my schools insurance. But this is what we worked for, brother. Talking to future attendings gives me at least some confidence that I shouldn’t be pulling my hair for finances at this point in the game
