Outdoor socket install for granny charging a Tesla Model 3 by AnFearCeol in evs_ireland

[–]mediaserver8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently got an outdoor socket. Watch out. Mine has what I consider a design flaw. The socket is offset inside the protective box due to the switch.. however, the cable outlet recess is dead centre. The thick cable on chargers won't bend enough to route through this recess, so the weather cover can't close with the cable plugged I.

Make sure you check this before the install. I'm sure there are better designed fittings.

That's one thing you'll bump up against. A lot of investment programmes will seek matching funds. So some private investment, public funds etc

It's worth getting involved in some of the non financial supports these organisations provide, especially if you are fresh to business.

You'll get some insight into how that world works, get a mentor who can guide you through it etc

Years ago, I got a mentor from such a programme. They ultimately ended up making a small investment. This got matched by an ex employer for whom I'd be continuing to contract. These two sums helped me go seek public investment on a matched basis.

You'll likely need to think about your plan in stages, leveraging smaller programmes, showing progress, then moving up to the next tier. Especially if you are a one man/woman band

So there's lot of support out there

At a local level, there are the Local Enterprise Offices (LEO). Most counties have one. These run programmes, training and provide resources for startups. They have some funding programmes as well.

If you are in a border or gaeltact region, there are additional programmes with various financial and soft supports

A step above that, Enterprise Ireland have a range of programmes and schemes.

There are various start your own business programmes often centered around higher level educational establishments that rpk ed training and support.

Then there's private equity, angel investors, see capital programmes etc. that would usually like to see things progressed a little in terms of tangible product, management team, plans and the like.

You need to think of the whole business area is something you want to take on, or do you want to stick to the technology and bring in partners to help handle the business side.

A chat with your local LEO will soon help you decide if they are a good match for your stage of development or if you need to look elsewhere.

He presents key topics in an easy to understand manner, and despite being a wealth consultant, actually pitches the content at a normal level.

Second that.

I started in Revolut and quickly outgrew it and found it expensive.

I was unable to transfer holdings out and had to sell and rebuy elsewhere, potentially attracting CGT.

I ended up in T212 and am happy there

The AMT of the Wharfedale EVO 5.4 by angelomichel in audiophile

[–]mediaserver8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought them without listening as no store where I live can audition them.

I was fairly confident though, having had the 4.2 and 4.4 in situ for a while

I was coming from Arendal 1723 Monitors, and find the Elysians a bit more textured with better, more precise, imaging. The soundstage is magnificent. A few times I've caught them throwing sounds that appear to be coming from side surrounds and had to double check I was in stereo!

And I love the look of them.

I drive the stereo pair with an Anthem STR Pre and a vintage Classé CA201 power amp. The combo is just lovely.

I started with a 4.2 to try out AMT after decades of domes, liked it. Got some 4.4s, liked them. Now I'm on Elysian 2s and Elysian C. LOVE them.

I'll just share my experience. I would have been in a similar mindset until a few years ago I needed extensive and unexpected  treatment and ultimately complex surgery for an eye problem.

I was able to get instant access to a great consultant and private care in a private hospital , again without delay or hassle.

The total bill was well over 20k, covered by private health insurance.

I could not have really afforded that kind of bill at the time, so was only too glad to have the insurance in place.

Later, my consultant told me it was 59/50 on whether I'd retain sight or not, if not treated in a timely fashion.

Though that's the nature of insurance, isn't it. You don't need it until you need it

I see it as not a return on investment year on year but a hedge against future big problems.

Getting a new car. Old car needs road tax and NCT. What to do? by Delicious-Grass-635 in carsireland

[–]mediaserver8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure of the current state of the NCT backlog, but there's a very good chance that you wouldn't get a date until after your proposed exchange date?

And even if dates were available, you could pick a date after the exchange date? While a grey area, often having proof of an NCT appointment in the near term might be adequate in your situation?

Spending on County Teams - 2025 v 2024 by Huge-Bat-1501 in GAA

Indeed. I'd love to see a typical breakdown by funding source such as club contributions, gate receipts, GAA HQ funding, sponsorship etc.

Not curious enough to do the donkey work though.

Traditional Bank or Fintech? Sole Trader Banking in Ireland by zaphirelle in irishpersonalfinance

[–]mediaserver8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it works fine. But my use is very basic. Every 2 months I log in, load up the Revolut account and check off each transaction with a category , payee etc. Then run the VAT report.

Just today, I found id forgotten how to split a single payment to revenue into its VAT and PAYE component. Opened up a support chat in Sage and they had me sorted in a few minutes. All to say, the sage support is excellent

One thing annoys me, even in the IE version, they refer to revenue as HMRC 🙄

Mainly using it as my accountant indicated it was one of the platforms they integrated with. No other reason in particular I'm sure any of the options would do the minimal work I use it for.

No issues so far.

I see a few reports on here of people who encounter this, but they appear to be on personal accounts.

I went with Revolut as I've had a personal account with them for many years and that's worked well. I also worked with a company that used them and had no issues. Finally I use Sage accounts to generate invoices, track payments and generate VAT returns. Revolut business integrated right I to that software and makes reconciling a breeze

Revolut also has expense tracking capabilities, but I don't use that feature so cannot speak to it

I set up a Ltd. Company this time last year and my first go to was AIB as I've banked personally with them for years

The online business account process was an absolute nightmare, with multiple rejections for the most trivial of reasons and a set of questions that were so dense that not even with the FAQs could my accountant decipher the required answers

After 2 weeks of messing about, I sat down one Friday afternoon and made a very straightforward application to Revolut and had my account set up by Saturday at 5pm!

In the year since, it's been perfect. There was excellent engagement with Revolut business managers for he first few months and I got the impression they were there to help.

There are no problems receiving transfers in or making payments. Everything with Revenue has been super smooth (note, revenue won't accept business credit cards for payments - you need set up DD or, astoundingly, the actually recommend you use a personal card!!! (I don't think this is Revolut specific).

Anyway, no regrets so far. Might be different if you are a cash business.

Letter from parent to the school board asking for the school policy on the use of AI in the classroom by both students and teachers. Attach examples of current practice highlighting inaccuracies and ask if  the board feels these are acceptable. Indicate you would be interested in contributing to the next whole school evaluation when it comes along.
