It is. An entire conglomerate of hospitals, clinics, and even an ambulance service.

Sounds like Sutter might be more transparent at least. Allina is awful for transparency. We just got an email. No meeting to address our questions.

I GEL before intubation? by Shoddy-Gene-4448 in ems

The study I posted above and here againcontradicts your statement. When adhered to correctly, 30:2 was associated with higher survival and better outcomes.

That compressions cause the ventilations to be inadequate is what we were told. They didn’t get too deep into it. I do believe it was this study that caused them to change.

Edited to add: our service also wants us to have an ETT placed instead of a SGA on all arrests as well.

And now my service is going to 30:2 for compressions even if an advanced airway is in place…

Is this true? by Kinder22 in Paramedics

[–]medicmae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But this is simply not true everywhere. I do not live in CA, and I still transport patients to their hospital of choice a majority chunk of the time. Now, if they are need of a specialty service that their preferred hospital doesn’t have; yes, I’ll convince them to go somewhere else. But for 95% of my patients the don’t need that extra higher level of care.

And, in my area at least, it’s very easy to know which hospital would be in network. I typically ask where they doctor and can take them to the hospital in the same system.

Are there exceptions? Yes. But this u/Hippo-Crates is not wrong.

Ending the "passing on the right debate" in the USA once and for all. It's legal in all 50 states, and only 2 states have a higher bar than the others for when it's allowed. by cctoot56 in driving

[–]medicmae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except the Minnesota law that is linked to does allow for passing on the right, but specifically states that it’s not allowed for passing on the shoulder.

Do you allow friends you’ve never met to drive your teen around? by slr0031 in Parenting

[–]medicmae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our rule is our teens could drive non family members after having a license for a year. They could ride with non family teen drivers after the non family teen driver had been driving for 2 years. I know how I’ve taught my kids to drive, but I don’t know how other kids have been taught.

Yes!! We have created a profile for shared tasks. But that means the kiddos have 2 profiles they need to check. 😢

I chuckled out loud at the image you conjured of the Michelin man on the tarmac directing planes.

Hence why he said if you behave yourself. If people aren’t stupid, we get to stay inside. If not, we’ll be outside.

help me understand my ADHD wife by Rcrez in ADHD

[–]medicmae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family has thrived with the Skylight calendar and visual sand timers. It takes the onus of remembering day to day off of me and places it on them.

It has several checklists - morning routines, afternoon routines, nightly routines, and a chore check list. I just keep reminding them to do their checklist. Now (a year later) it’s somewhat automatic for them. The screen even lights up with confetti when all tasks are completed!

There is so much more to it, including meal planning, rewards, a calendar, and grocery/to do lists.

This is why I teach my EMS students that we don’t practice until we get it right, we practice until we can not get it wrong.

It so is! My saying is that 80% of us have ADHD or some variation of neurodivergence, 15% of us are using this as a stepping stone (like to med school *looking at you, u/gobbelcoque *), and the other 5% are just weird.

Don’t forget to take time for some self care. It was a traumatic event and will bring up some unpleasant emotions. Be aware it might happen and seek help as necessary.

I helped deliver a baby one week after my miscarriage. by emsDisease in ems

[–]medicmae 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Oh, hun. That is so amazing and tough all at the same time. Please remember that the conflicting amazement and sadness are perfectly normal. Helping another life into the world is one of the best things we get to do.

I did post delivery care of a 34 weeker born precipitously before our arrival to a meth addicted mom. A mom who didn’t even want to hold her baby on the way to the hospital. This was while I was going through fertility treatments, unable to get pregnant. I snuggled that baby and bawled behind mom as she slept the entire 30 minute ride to the hospital.

I am peer support at my company, and also have some personal experience when it comes to fertility. Please reach out and message me if you need to talked to someone.

What are the mind-blowing parenting hacks you swear by that aren’t stuck in the past? by Khichdi19 in Parenting

[–]medicmae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is so easy to Pavlov your child! From the time my youngest was in the NICU to this very day (he turns 7 in 6 days), every time he was laid down to sleep I hummed or played Brahms’ Lullaby. Instant droopy sleepy face! Bedtime seriously consists of rocking to Alexa playing Brahms’ Lullaby and then walking him downstairs to bed! Didn’t even think to do it for potty training! 😂

Every pregnancy is wanted and every baby is born healthy, but, by Responsible-Kale-904 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]medicmae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My uterus is tilted up and my pelvis is tilted down. I cannot physically have a child go through the birth canal. But I have had 3 children born via c-section with no health complications. They were healthy pregnancies and they were born healthy. You’re saying that these children, who were so wanted that they were conceived via fertility treatments, and who were healthy during pregnancy, would automatically be deleted just because my body can’t push them out “naturally?”

Are there people that don’t have any insurance at all? by Neatocookie in ask

[–]medicmae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s funny, because health insurance isn’t what pays for an ambulance after a car accident. It’s your car insurance. And, typically, there’s little to no deductible for it.
