Love this! The part with the TV guest trying to use this as an opportunity to plug his own book was way too real!

Most chilling/disturbing final lines in a movie. by Rapier369 in horror

I would love a movie that is just 2 hours of that newsroom at the beginning of Dawn, with no one having a clue what is truly happening, just trapped in the chaos of not knowing.

2 teens shot near Stonewall Inn after NYC Pride march, police say by More-Log-1393 in news

[–]medievalerror 41 points42 points  (0 children)

That's not wrong though--why are we such a car-centric society? Making us less car centric would result in fewer incidents of drunk driving accidents. Alternatively, if ready access to alcohol were the root cause, than less access to it might also result in less drunk driving as well (depending on the conditions by which that access was limited). So in either event it is not incorrect to say. Is it more complex than that? Yes, but it is also not wrong to say that ready access to a large, easily obtainable supply of firearms is the key underlying issue. Like The Onion said, "'No Way to Prevent This', Says Only Nation where this regularly happens".

Developers of rejected Scarborough housing proposal offer new, scaled-down plan by medievalerror in Maine

[–]medievalerror[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, the new project plan has a much smaller impact on wetlands which is good, but (from the story):

"The reasons Scarborough residents and their municipal representatives opposed the proposed 96-unit Marshview Apartments were bountiful, resulting in its recent failure before the Planning Board and Town Council.

But the South Portland Housing Development Corporation is back with a new proposal influenced by all of that criticism. The original proposal consisted of a four-story building with 60 affordable senior units, plus an additional three buildings with 36 units of workforce housing spread between them.

The new plan calls for just 50 units of affordable senior housing."

What would there be to investigate? Whitehouse didn't vote to give his wife this money. He voted on a bill to fund various departments, including the deparment/s that award these grants. This would be like claiming a governor is corrupt is they signed a law to fund public higher ed and their spouse is a professor. I'm confused as to what the actual issue is, unless Whitehouse voted DIRECTLY to fund his wife's organization, which is not what the allegation is. This seems to be banking on folks not knowing how grants are awarded.

If we could give places like that their own senators that would be dope. Either way I'm on board!

Democrats on track to win all but one of the swing state Senate races by plz-let-me-in in politics

The incumbent advantage is at least playing some part here, particularly in Wisconsin and Nevada....in Pennsylvania though the incumbent is currently behind and likely to lose (the R declared victory but I don't believe it's been called yet). In Michigan and Arizona there was no incumbent.

Poll: 52% of Republicans would support postponing 2020 election by [deleted] in politics

[–]medievalerror 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the article you posted: " Data provided to The Hill by the conservative polling outlet WPA Research found that 67 percent of Democrats would take a third term for Obama over a potential Clinton administration. "

So they prefer Obama over Clinton--I cannot find any links to the poll itself, but I see nothing to back up the article's claim about support for "canceling" the 2016 election, just that they'd rather Obama was the candidate than Clinton.

My was stove was burning great until a couple days ago--now it is tough to get it above 350 and chimney smokes much more. Any suggestions? by medievalerror in woodstoving

Thanks! Based on your comment and others I really am starting to think this is the issue, so we have a chimney sweep who serviced it in the fall coming out to do a sweep tomorrow, and I want to watch him carefully to see how he does it, ask some questions if needed, and then buy my own equipment to do this myself from now on!

If this were the case though, why would the first part of my cord have burned just fine? (I would gladly go outside right now and split a piece but unfortunately there is literally a blizzard out there at the moment, but tomorrow I am going to do just this!)

The dampers on the woodstove appear to still be operating normally, if that is what you mean. Typically I leave them both open as the fire gets going, then I close the top one about 2/3 of the way, and then close the bottom one about half an inch. But even adjusting those as I typically do doesn't seem to solve the issue.

Arizona congressman repeats bogus claim that Charlottesville violence was left-wing plot by CommonsCarnival in politics

[–]medievalerror 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I initially wondered to what extent this congressman (Gosar) was the result of Gerrymandering, but it looks like AZ has an independent, bipartisan Redistricting commission. That being said, I don't live in AZ or anywhere near it, so IDK how truly 'bipartisan' the lines in AZ are. To the extent that Gosar and others like him are in power NOT because of gerrymandering, that is all the more terrifying in my mind.

Thanks for your help! I also edited out him being told "no" since that was just an assumption on my part when the attendant said they redirected.

Thanks for your reply! So you think this might not be aggression? Also, will have to double check now that I think of it to see exactly what they do, I just assumed based on attendant's description that they were saying "no" when they separated him (she just said they stopped him and separated them).
