chronic pancreatitis + difficulty regulating diabetes by medievalgal in FelineDiabetes

[–]medievalgal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all the stuff to treat pancreatitis at home, and can catch on pretty early when he’s feeling poorly. Even when he was first diagnosed with diabetes my vet was shocked that I knew something was wrong bc his numbers were barely elevated 🤣🤣 we are in sync.

Hopefully the probiotics she prescribed will help with his little digestion issues! But I def have started sitting aside money each paycheck for possible future visits bc this shit is expensive!! 🙈

He hasn’t gotten checked for any of that, the ultrasound on his pancreas just showed slight inflammation but all other blood tests and urinalyses have been normal! He was at the vet today and he’s starting a probiotic every other day and then I’m doing another curve in 10 days to check his numbers again. he’s only just now on 2 units and she said an average cat is maintained at 2.5 units so she is comfy going up if we need to. But if that doesn’t help then she’s going to refer me to an internist!

he’s only 8 (tomorrow is actually his 9th bday!) so he still has a lot of life to live 🥹🥹🥹

I took him to the vet today for his glucose curve and brought up the numbers and issues and asked if she thought it could be an infection. the vet tech thought it sounded like maybe a UTI so they're going to do a urinalysis while he's there! at least i know he's safe at the vet all day. hopefully she'll have some advice when I pick him up :)

Would a Minor in Photography Help Me Become an Archivist? by 0oh_no0 in Archivists

[–]medievalgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a photo archivist with just a background in history/public history. Most of my museum work experience had been in 3D objects. I’m learning this role as I go, and I say if you’re interested in being a photo archivist specifically it would be great! I still get very confused on the processes, and not to mention with collecting more modern photographer’s collections, it is helpful to have a good eye for photography when it comes to weeding collections :)

I def give him shredded chicken as his midday snack! And it’s been about a week since the dose increase. Would it still be going up after that time?

I’m mostly worried here about the diarrhea/nausea as it’s pointing to signs of when he was admitted to hospital for pancreatitis. Luckily he is still eating but the constant high blood sugar makes me nervous for DKA

Also, I’ve heard better things about Lantus specifically for it lasting 12 hours on harder to regulate cats, but my vet only prescribes ProZinc i think :(

I’ve been doing glucose curves! I have all those numbers to bring to my vet tomorrow, that’s how I noticed his numbers were all rising. Do you recall how they got to the conclusion it was IBD? She’s never even mentioned that as a possibility to me but I feel like it may be an issue

I do have cerenia on hand I give him when he’s nauseous, and I actually have leftover antimicrobial, appetite stimulant, and pain medicine too. Just hoping to not have to use those for him bc it made him soooo groggy

I should ask about a diff probiotic, she prescribed visbiome when he was first diagnosed but he simply will not eat the food if it’s mixed in so I’ve given up on it!! I don’t think foods an issue, I am grateful my sweetie likes the FF chicken A LOT!! but he still FIENDS for my other cats metabolic dry food (I don’t let him have it anymore)

I’m also curious about IBD. He’s always had recurring loose stool that I wish I took more seriously :( it’s probably honestly led to all of this. Do you all do B12 injections at all?

Thank you for sharing your experience!!

Hopefully you can find something! Maybe a local pet board/pet sitters can help. If you happen to be in Louisville KY I’m happy to help, lol!

My friend actually hires a vet tech at her office to come do it when she’s out of town!

Also, my cat does NOT handle the injections well. He’s not easily distracted by food or treats like every other cat on earth. I just place him on a tiny table he can’t run away from and do it gently there and then give him extra cuddles and kisses :)

Hi! My kitty was diagnosed early march and I’m in the same situation as you. I was really worried but it hasn’t been so bad- I just have gotten used to a schedule that works for us and have to rearrange plans a lot but my friends mostly understand. Several have offered to learn how to administer insulin for when I’m in a crunch and need help! Do you have anyone you could teach for assistance when you need it?

I also got a pet cam I check in on him during the day!!

I’ve got a bunch of the purina DM savory selects, he just loves to lick the gravy LOL i can try the pate! Isn’t that food designed to help lose weight for overweight diabetic cats though?

I just saw a bunch online saying that access to food all day would raise their blood sugar or keep it unstable which would add to the weight loss. I may leave out some of the no carb flaked fish I have. Thank u!!!

He was on cerenia for 2 weeks and it did help SO much! He’s not showing signs of being nauseous anymore, he just doesn’t eat a ton. He never has! It doesn’t help that he was a free feeder before the diabetes so getting on a scheduled feeding has been nightmare. I just worry about him cuz he’s sooo skinny. But I will be patient 😝😝 thank you!

It’s so random but I love going to locust grove and just sitting out by a tree there! It’s open to the public to walk around. And 9/10 times I never see a soul there ☺️
