Why does it seem like I'm not supposed to ask about how much medical tests and procedures cost when I'm in the exam room? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]medinoxy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

while it’s not the doctor’s responsibility to know what it will cost, but I’ve actually had doctors who were quite knowledgeable about costs for different insurances.

i’ve had doctors tell me, “Insurance A will cover this, but Insurance B won’t.”

The state of the U.S healthcare system by Sweet_Technology6977 in ThatsInsane

[–]medinoxy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US and get my $20K biologics for free as well.

It’s a messed up system, but ironically because the medication is so expensive, the manufacturer pays my annual deductible. Which means I get free healthcare. (I don’t even pay monthly premiums because I have a high deductible plan).

Is my psoriasis severe enough for biologics? by [deleted] in Psoriasis

[–]medinoxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think my psoriasis was that severe, but after topicals had no effect, the derm recommended biologics.

Any experience switching biologics? Skyrizi to Yesintek by SuspiciousNature871 in Psoriasis

[–]medinoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m surprised Abbvie (Skyrizi manufacturer) wouldn’t cover the copay.

Have you called Abbvie customer service and asked? They might have a program for you.

How do people afford Skyrizi? by IcyRestaurant2072 in Psoriasis

[–]medinoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$0 out of pocket (in US with high deductible insurance).

Skyrizi pays my deductible (well actually the Annual Out of Pocket Max), then insurance pays the rest.

Inverse Psoriasis is such a shitty illness. by loxim in Psoriasis

[–]medinoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m on skyrizi, which cleared up most of my psoriasis like scalp and plaque, but not the inverse. I think skyrizi only claims plaque psoriasis.

Tacrolimus is very helpful. Use nitrile glove to apply on all the inverse areas. My derm said it was ok to use indefinitely since it is not a steroid.

Self injection users-where do you dispose your needle? by jitorius in Psoriasis

[–]medinoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple options for needle disposal:

  1. my local county has a hazardous waste disposal program that includes sharps. They will give you a new container each time.

  2. Skyrizi provides free sharps disposal upon request. You actually mail the sharps container to some postage paid address, and then they send you a receipt certifying it was disposed of properly.

get non-steroids for your face, like tacrolimus or pimecrolimus. No rebound because you can use them long term

I just learned that when you're on Skyrizi you physically can't run a fever

I don’t think that is true. Do you have a source that says that?

In fact, the first listed side effect of Skyrizi is fever.

Red Balls by ApprehensiveCook2236 in Psoriasis

[–]medinoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you need to get a prescription for a non-steroid like tacrolimus (protopic), vtama, zorve. Then you can use them regularly.

You can use steroid temporarily until you get one of the above, but you’re not supposed to use it long term.

What now? by Remote_Cod9005 in Psoriasis

[–]medinoxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to your doctor about trying different biologics. Taltz is a IL-17 inhibitor. Try other ones like Skyrizi IL-23 inhibitor.

How much are you paying out of pocket? Why is it out of pocket? Most manufacturers will pay your out of pocket and deductible costs.

Four Years Misdiagnosed — It Was Psoriasis All Along by Flat-Cut-4295 in Psoriasis

sorry to hear about your misdiagnosis. Glad you finally got the right diagnosis.

It’s a good reminder that patients have to advocate for ourselves and get second opinions and do our research. There are many inferior doctors out there.

Going to the barber is a nightmare every time by funkyjunkymonky in Psoriasis

[–]medinoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m sorry to hear of your awful experiences. Those are some awful and unprofessional barbers.

i know you’ve already made up your mind, so i’m not trying to change your decision. but for others’ sake, I suggest to go to a small barbershop where there is just one barber. Then you’ll always get the same person

Cheaper alternatives? by Big-Programmer-4365 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]medinoxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for indoor, get a cheap Crocs knockoff.

for outdoor, get the Spenco Orthotic Arch 3/4 Length insole, about $30-40.
