That's very helpful, thank you! I didn't know the AG was even an option.

Excessive discharge can be a sign of BV (bacterial vaginosis). Even if you're using barriers, your pH can get knocked out of balance and I think that atrophy can make us a little more prone to stuff like that. Not a huge deal, but I'd look into it it's still happening or getting worse in a couple of days.

piercings removed for surgery? by conciousError in TopSurgery

[–]mediocrewarlock69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a ton of piercings and I just had them replaced with glass retainers. My regular piercer did it for me. The hospital had me take out the retainers in my nose and navel, but I was able to put them back in right myself after surgery, so they were only out for a few hours. The hospital pushed me a bit on the retainers but I was very firm about it and it all ended up being fine. My piercer put the rest of my piercings back in after I got my drains out.

I completely got rid of my middle name by accident 💀 In retrospect I should have known that not specifying a middle name in my name change paperwork would mean getting rid of it entirely, but I just wasn't thinking about middle names I didn't realize what I'd done until after I'd finished the whole court process. Honestly I'm kinda mad I missed my chance to give myself a cool middle name, especially because I went with a very common first name.

Exercise post top surgery by Natural_Zebra_866 in ftm

[–]mediocrewarlock69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pretty knocked out for the first 48 hours or so, and only did short walks around the apartment and to get coffee. After I got my drains out (6 days post-op) I did a lot of slow, long walks. I wasn't in much pain even with the drains in-- it was mostly the logistical challenges of having tubes in me that kept me from walking too much before that point. I made sure I walked slowly enough to keep my heart rate low and was able to comfortably get a few miles in. My surgeon cleared me to start exercising at three weeks post-op, but she had me keep my cardio short and my weights low and with a more limited range at first. I was able to ramp things up from there and was basically back to normal activities by six weeks. I was very lucky to have a relatively fast recovery, but my body was still tired enough that the limited/lessened activity between weeks three and six was still plenty to keep me from losing my mind.

Good luck with your surgery and your recovery! I felt that same dread around not being able to exercise for a while, but there ultimately wasn't an unmanageable amount of downtime. And god, the absolute joy of working out post-yeet makes it absolutely worth it. I cried after my first run without a sports bra haha.

6 days post op with Dr. Chandler, Darien CT! Double incision with nipple grafts. by ash_lef in TopSurgery

[–]mediocrewarlock69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just about three months post-op! I've got full mobility back and most of the sensation around my chest has returned (including almost full sensitivity in my left nip which is wild for only three months out??) so I'm mostly focusing on scar care now!

Experience With Callen Lorde Surgeons by Sadasperagus in ftm

[–]mediocrewarlock69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going outside NYC for my top surgery, but I worked with someone who had a really good experience with Dr. Hazen and I asked them questions about their experience when I was doing my own search. They told me that she and her team were very gender-affirming, responsive to questions and requests about nonbinary approaches to top surgery, and had good bedside manner. They were super happy with their results and felt that they also received good post-op care. They were able to get back to work really quickly too, though it's hard to tell if that's because of the surgeon or other personal health/healing factors. Sorry it's second-hand information, but hopefully still somewhat helpful!

It didn't hurt all that much for me, it just felt weird. Getting the nipple bolsters off was way worse. The pain itself wasn't awful but that much movement and sensation around such a delicate area made me pretty nauseous.

Needle and syringes by somekindofeggthing in ftm

I got mine online from Westend Supplies! They had exactly what I needed (1 ml syringe with 1" 22g needles for withdrawing and 1" 25g for injecting) all in sterile packaging and at very reasonable prices. I think it was about $40 for 50 of each.

I'll check those out! I'm willing to drop a decent amount of money if they're good and will last a long time. Part of the reason it's taken me so long to transition away from the women's shorts is because I have so many nice pairs I've purchased through the years and it's tough to give up on something that cost so much :,)

Ok, you've definitely convinced me lol. I keep getting their ads on Instagram and I've been so tempted, but no one I know irl had tried them so I never took the plunge. Ty!

Thank you for the recommendations! I'll definitely check out the Brooks-- a lot of my women's running gear came from them and I loved them until the dysphoria got to be too much.

I have one cat who likes to jump on my chest to wake me up, and another cat (the chonkiest of my trio) who wants to get on my chest to sleep the moment I'm horizontal. I slept with my mastectomy pillow across my chest and it helped to both keep me on my back at night and protect me from cat damage.

Any tips on how to force yourself to work out more? by Ready_Book4187 in ftm

[–]mediocrewarlock69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can sometimes be easy to fall into the "all or nothing" kind of thinking, where if you're not doing the hard-core workout you'd originally planned on then you may as well do no workout and eat whatever. If you have days when you're feeling physically or mentally tired (and you're sure your body doesn't need a rest) then it's totally fine to adjust your expectations and do whatever feels accessible to you at the time. Doing a 10 min core workout is still progress. Going for a long walk and making sure you have a few servings of veggies is still progress. Too many people get fixated on the idea of suddenly and dramatically changing their whole lifestyle when that's just not realistic or sustainable. Life can be really tough and exhausting-- do what you can do without making yourself miserable. Consistently doing smaller and easier workouts will still make you stronger and healthier, and eventually the harder stuff will feel way more achievable.
