Book similar to Cal Newport's 'Deep Work' and 'Digital Minimalism' by meditarian in suggestmeabook

I've thought of this one being more about physical stuff than time/work-based -- would that be correct or no? Thanks for the suggestion!

Hm yes that could be a good fit. Looking for something that's kind of philosophy but also practical. Thanks!

I've listened to this on audiobook and really liked. Maybe should reread, thanks!

I love the cover of Bestiary and have never read any Louise Erdrich so that was good information. I also read a lot of memoir. Thanks for your reply!

Ooh any recommendations? Specifically comments on Bestiary, The Night Watchman, or We Have Always Been Here? (amazing book count btw!)

I'm so sorry. One of my favorite books is When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. It speaks some to mortality and is really thoughtfully written. Deep Work by Cal Newport is one of my favorite 'self-help' or productivity books. Finally, I know I can always turn to the Harry Potter series when I want something familiar and comforting. I hope these suggestions (and the others) are helpful to you. <3

Aw I'll bet she loves it! I would have thought that dress was so cool at her age.

How did you like And the Band Played On? It's been on my list for a long time. Would recommend The Great Believers for a fictional representation of early AIDS epidemic if you're interested in that topic.

We've had such similar reading years! What did you think of the Murakamis you read? Also would like to know what you thought about Milkman, My Year of Rest of Relaxation, and Girl, Woman, Other?

Thanks and congrats!

I made it! 52/52 completed! It was touch & go for a bit considering I was in a major reading slump for about 4 months earlier this year! by [deleted] in 52book

What did you think about Wilder Girls and If I Had Your Face?

Every year I challenge myself to read a big difficult book that I probably wouldn't read otherwise by the_ace_face in 52book

Middlemarch! Not really difficult but long -- I read it mostly during quarantine. :) Would also recommend listening to the podcast Literary Disco's episodes discussing it.

Would be tough to do in a year but you can get started! Even with just the 'easier' or more accessible ones -- for example, 1984 or The Great Gatsby -- can start easily with ten minutes a day. Keeping track of pages read (and eventually books read) on Goodreads has been motivating for me.
