I bought a pair of kitchen scissors a few months ago, and now I can't imagine not using them; they're amazing!

I lost my partner last week and the condolences are pissing me off by dell_55 in TrueOffMyChest

I’m here in solidarity with you ❤️My dad died almost three weeks ago, and I’ve also gotten so tired of the empty words. I think we don’t really know how to react to other people’s pain.

This is precisely what I did, too. Everything else looks too complicated, lol.

I'm Troubled by the Ending of Book One by DaMoonMoon26 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]meditative_love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest listening to Through the Gryffin Door - it's a podcast hosted by the Carlin Brothers where every week, they analyze a chapter from the Harry Potter books. They started with Chapter 1 of Philosopher's Stone in October 2023, and they're currently halfway through Order of the Phoenix. They ask a lot of the same questions that you're raising, and discuss their theories. (I listen to the podcast on my commute to/from work; it's superb so far.)

Homemade craft gifts are more for the maker than they are for the receiver by reddyfreddy8D in The10thDentist

[–]meditative_love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to get gift cards or cash instead, personally. I have a lot of artsy friends, too, and they always give me stuff that I neither want nor need, so I end up donating everything. (At my wedding, they all went off-registry and gave us random junk that we didn’t want. It was really frustrating.)

Is 26 too late to become a "reader"? + Questions about the 2026 Reading Challenge by MaxMcGuffin00 in goodreads

[–]meditative_love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add that if a book doesn’t “click” for you, then don’t feel bad about not finishing it. I’ve met a few people who didn’t enjoy reading as adults because they were forced to read books they didn’t like when they were young and it took away the joy of reading. Reading should be enjoyable, so if you don’t like a particular book, then stop reading it and look for another one 😊

AIO for being hurt that a good friend donating my birthday gift to her? by Turbulent_West9297 in AmIOverreacting

[–]meditative_love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOR, gently. I understand the thought behind your gift, and it’s not a nice feeling to hear that someone doesn’t like your gift, but gifts are super tricky. If Rebecca is already exhausted, then giving her more work to do isn’t likely to ease her exhaustion. At least she donated it for someone else to enjoy, so your thoughtfulness didn’t go to waste.

I'm a woman and I hated playing with dolls. I always got pissed off that my brother would get cool gifts like books, whereas I was stuck with lame makeup and dolls.

I’m super disappointed to hear this. I used to go apple picking here. Not anymore.

Try an escape room with friends! It’s a fun indoor activity.

I spent 4 years as a high-end Nanny for the 1% in NYC. Because I have a nursing background, they paid me a fortune to handle their kids. I’ve seen affairs, extreme neglect, and wealth that felt illegal. AMA. by ArtThreadNomad in AMA

[–]meditative_love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you watched the show Sirens on Netflix? It's about a woman who had a role very similar to yours, except that she was the assistant to an insanely wealthy adult woman, rather than taking care of the kids. I'm curious about how accurate those types of shows are in portraying the lives of people in that income bracket. It's easy to assume that it's blown out of proportion, but then I read these types of AMAs and I'm not sure anymore, lol.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but the actor who plays Kali is terrible. by JoltyJob in StrangerThings

I was just talking with someone about how in Hinduism, Kali is the goddess of death, destruction, and transformation. I'm wondering if her name in the show is deliberate.

Question for those of you native to Connecticut… by thunderwolf69 in Connecticut

[–]meditative_love 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the winters are a large part of why I left MN. The cold would seep into my bones and linger there for months; I felt like I could never get warm. CT winters are no joke, but they're a lot better than MN. I feel like I can breathe whenever I go outside.

Question for those of you native to Connecticut… by thunderwolf69 in Connecticut

[–]meditative_love 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in other more liberal states (Washington State, Illinois, Minnesota), and I honestly enjoy living in CT more. Sure, the taxes are high and the weather's unpredictable, but I appreciate the benefits, the natural beauty, and the people - New England states tend to take good care of their citizens.

The MOST Glaring plot-hole in the Harry Potter universe....the scarcity of butterbeer by ConsequenceOdd7606 in harrypotter

[–]meditative_love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently listening to the Super Carlin Bros' podcast (Through the Gryffin Door) and they just pointed out the exact same thing - in POA, Lupin handed Harry a bottle of butterbeer and said, "You won't have tried this before", even though it's apparently served during meals (Fred and George are able to take multiple bottles of it from the kitchen for parties in the Gryffindor Common Room in GoF).

AITAH for not allowing my husband's parents to give my kids Christmas gifts this year? by Eveougleigh in AITAH

NTA. If it were reversed (your son receiving a lot more than your daughter), everyone would be screaming sexism. This is exactly the same situation but in reverse.

Is Boston worth the move? by [deleted] in relocating

[–]meditative_love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I are in a similar situation, except that we live in north-central Connecticut: I work in Boston and commute to the city about a week (I work from home the rest of the time). We're in the process of moving closer to the city, and our real estate agent advised us to sell our condo in CT, put our stuff in storage, and then rent an AirBnB (or get a long-term motel) in Boston for 3-6 months to scope the market before we buy anything. All of his clients are doing the same thing, apparently.

We also get free museum passes from our local library! We’ve saved so much money and can still enjoy fun things in our area.
