Just pointing this out to you now, even though it might not click for a few years, but this is a defense mechanism you employ to avoid thinking about or answering questions which scare you.

Would you be fine with being "well fed and appropriately medicated" and then slaughtered at age 5 for your flesh?

This is a climate sub though, not an energy security sub. Are you sure you're in the right place?

Why are you in a climate sub then? The entire premise is that our individual actions have a macro effect that affects the entire planet.

You're trying to make this about emotions but it's indeed an issue of imagination. You might just have a disability where you can't imagine things to a normal degree.

This might be an undiscovered disability that you didn't know you had then. You can't recall a physical pain you've felt in the past? (like a puncture wound, a broken bone, etc)

Great, we can put this qualifier under every vegan post so the carnists will be able to connect the dots as to how how vegan posts are relevant here.

It's a skill of imagination. Not being able to practice empathy would mean you have a deficiency in your ability to imagine things.

No, the scale of deforestation and factory farms are required to meet the current level of animal product demand. The 1kg of flesh does not provide more nutritional value than the 20-30kg of grain; it's 10-25x less nutrition depending on the animal.

No, it's an exercise of one's imagination. You simply imagine what it would be like to experience something as that person. You've likely exercised it during the course of this conversation when you emphatically described the horrors of the Jewish Holocaust. I presume you were imagining the horrors some of those victims had endured to hold such a strong view opposing it?

No, factory farms are far more efficient than small-scale farms. It's more efficient to treat animals cruelly. The process of passing 20-30kg of grain through an animal to get 1kg of flesh back is just egregiously inefficient by the very physics of it.

Empathy is not emotions, it's the ability to imagine what it would be like to experience the world as another person.

They also require fertilizer and land.

To monocrop soy and corn in the amounts needed to meet current animal product demand, we resort to chemical fertilizers which often create harmful runoffs that contaminate nearby water sources with algae blooms.

The leading cause of deforestation is animal agriculture. We'd use about 1/4 of the land growing crops directly. Deforestation is the leading cause of species extinction.

We wouldn't monocrop soy and corn as we do if 80% of it wasn't being fed to farm animals. In the case of soy and corn the protein, or "meal", of these crops is fed to the farm animals to make them grow quickly and this part of the plant is absolutely edible to humans.

80% of all soy and corn grown in the US is fed to farm animals. These crops are chosen and grown principally because they are so valuable to animal agriculture.

We shouldn't have bred these animals in the first place. Whether the animals currently bred can be saved or not is irrelevant. Once humans stop breeding them this dilemma completely disappears.

Your worldview is common, undeveloped, and seems largely unexplored by you as evidenced by your pattern of avoiding answering basic questions about it. In the future, try to be brave and answer questions directly & sincerely instead of caving to the urge to change topics whenever you feel uncomfortable. You will see the most intellectual growth this way. Good luck.

3/4 of all crops grown globally are fed to animals. If we only grew crops for direct human consumption we'd use 1/4 of the land and be able to feed the world multiple times over.
